Plastic junk roof trim broken!

All, RTV lasted 5 months. Just glued it down again with a lot more. Will see how it does. I think you need to pretty much fill the channel up to get it to hold.

Timely - I just noticed my trim (2022) was loose a couple of days ago. As soon as I saw the rivet come into play, double-sided tape became my chosen path.

The trim plastic doesn't really come in contact with the body except along the thin edges. If you go the RTV route, I would expect you need a lot to get it to adhere to both the body and trim. At any rate, I layered three or four strips of double sided tape and it laid down well. As for longevity, we'll see, but its an easy re-do if needed in a year or so.

Waaaaaaaaaay better option than the dealer taking down the glass, in my opinion.

I just had this happen on the drivers side, and like most said, I grabbed some heavy duty RTV. We're a couple months and a 3500mi road trip and still holding. Granted my truck sits in my garage shop most of the time, but I do deal with Dallas heat.

It looks like there is a big booger weld under that piece on the passenger side that was putting pressure on the plastic. The driver side doesn’t have the same weld. I can’t tell if the attachment hole pulled through for if it was designed like a horseshoe. Anyways the attachment bolt is behind the rear window not accessible. For now I have it pushed back down under the bolt but don’t think it will last long. Also there is a big bulge in the plastic/weatherstripping that I have never noticed before that seems to be caused by the big ass booger weld under it. Some pics attached.

Kinda weird, just checked mine and both are clipped down nice and tight. Is this something that cracks over time? Should those of us without the issue glue them down as preventive maintenance?

One of mine broke a long time ago (repaired with epoxy that has since somewhat deteriorated), the other is still intact and looks perfect. I think it might be a result of stress when they are installed. So, depending on the warp factor when installed may dictate early failure.

I also have the 22.

Finally dealt with mine today. Noticed it earlier this summer, but this summer sucked for me dealing with medical shit. Driver's side is just fine. Squeezed half a tube of Permatex 82180 in the curve/corner and taped it down. Now to let it sit and cure. Will see how it does, hopefully it lasts for a while.

Realized I'm coming up on the 5 year mark with big red. Wouldn't mind a newer rig, but still can't fathom the new prices.

It happened on my 22, 30 miles outside of warranty. I Uesed the full tube of RTV. It is holding but its only been a few months.

Add me to the broken passenger roof trim piece club. It took four years but I’ve arrived in good company it appears ! RTV adhesive is scheduled for delivery today for the driveway repair.

Mine finally broke after 2.5 years of use. I tried the 3M, but as mentioned, just doesn’t grab. I’ll try the RTV route now. I plan on hitting the sides and put a bunch on top of the layers of 3M in there. Hope that does the trick.
As stated, the design on this is beyond idiotic

And here is the issue. Ford worker used way too much seam sealer and this forces the trim up and it breaks. If mine pops up again, I’ll trim the sealer and the black trim piece to relieve the pressure.

Anyone else have this issue? Both sides for me. 2021 F-250 XLT Tremor, no rail mods or attachments.
