Plastic junk roof trim broken!

It sucks, but fixing on our own is simpler and leads to less potential problems than making Ford deal with it. Like others, I used the black rtv. It has held up without any issues. The windshield adhesive reviews state it cures fairly hard and a lot more expensive.

Mine just broke last weekend, it was flopping. I hit it with some jb weld, held it down overnight with painters tape. All is well now, cheap, easy fix. Better than taking it to the dealer and having them remove the rear window and paying that bill, plus you know they would screw it up and it would forever leak.

that plastic strip is there to cover the factory installed nuts for a roof rack mounting. its meant to be able to snap off & snap back in place.

everyone including me assumes the half ring snap is broken. when in fact the trim cover piece has only creeped its way forward just enough to pull that end snap out.

fix
pull the snap on the front side off. pull inline with the direction the trip is laying. don't pull perpendicular to the snap. slide it out toward the rear. if the whole piece slides enough to get the rear end snapped back in. then, snap it back in. then snap the front back in. nothing was ever broken, just miss aligned.

if the trim strip would not slide & you had to remove it. snap the back in. work the strip back in place with some pressure forward but not enough to pull the rear loose (original problem). work your way to the front snap. snap it back in place as you snap it the last few inched of the strip in place.

The end of my trim piece where it connects to the rivet behind the plastic was broken. There’s no moving it in either direction. The plastic hole is broken around the rivet.

Not going to pull the driver side out to see as it hasn't budged.

If it was held down better, the trim piece would be flush.

if you look you can see the clip pulling off the post it clips around

i still think adjustments would fix it

see the circle in there? thats where it's pullin loose.

Just noticed my roof molding came loose or popped out, looks like the back window needs to be removed to reinstall, called my dealer and they said they would order one and the body shop would install it. So far this and left headlight was replaced as it was not sealed properly, only have 1300 miles on the Tremor.View attachment 24040View attachment 24041

There is a quick fix a guy did on youtube, look up the trim piece fix for Super Duty.

No worries, I do appreciate your input. I didn’t realize that whole piece needs to slide forward. Seams like this is a common problem.

Try VHB tape. It’s a double sided 3M product. That’s my plan when mine break.
