Plastic junk roof trim broken!

The plastic trim piece on the top of the truck that attaches behind the rear window pulled loose. It looks like there is a big booger weld under that piece on the passenger side that was putting pressure on the plastic. The driver side doesn’t have the same weld. I can’t tell if the attachment hole pulled through for if it was designed like a horseshoe. Anyways the attachment bolt is behind the rear window not accessible. For now I have it pushed back down under the bolt but don’t think it will last long. Also there is a big bulge in the plastic/weatherstripping that I have never noticed before that seems to be caused by the big ass booger weld under it. Some pics attached.

That sucks! Presumably something you can get fixed under warranty?

Yep…..common issue. Poor design. Mine goes back the first week in January. They have to pull the back window, re-rivet the trim piece back in place and then reinstall the window. A complete PITA!!

I had something similar happen on my '13 but I left it broke and was hoping this was a better design but it appears not. Hope they will fix it under warranty.

Yep…..common issue. Poor design. Mine goes back the first week in January. They have to pull the back window, re-rivet the trim piece back in place and then reinstall the window. A complete PITA!!

I have the exact same issue and the same bulgy weld.

Another guy on here fixed his with RTV. Not worth having the dealer tear out the rear window and have the issue come back again later.

Yeah, I sorta remember that post. Couldn’t find it in a search for “junk ass plastic roof trim” lol. I am gonna see how long it holds up with me jamming it back down between the rivot that’s supposed to hold it in place before I take it to the dealer. I do need to go to the dealer to get 2 recalls taken care of, but like you eluded to I don’t necessarily want them to take out the back window to fix this piece of shit plastic.

My ‘22 already did this. Same on my dads ‘18. Seems to be common. I shoved mine back in place a month ago. Noticed it came back off again this week.

I used some 3M outdoor adhesive double sided tape on my dads back in October. His still holding down.

For sure if this happens to mine i'm going with rtv or something. No way i'm letting someone pull my back window over something that can be just glued.

Black RTV sealant will fix it. Shitty design. Did mine 1 1/2 year ago still holding strong, including carwash and summer heat.

Use the sealant and tape it down with blue painters tape or something similar overnight as go as new. When you push it down, try to push the broken piece back over the pop rivet sitting behind the glass.

Should be seam sealer filled in the roof channel (the lump). I think Ford mostly (or only) uses rivets to hold the aluminum pieces of the 'buck' together.

Ford has never been good about uniform, flat amounts of roof seam sealer, even on the old steel cabs.

Same thing happened to my 17 I used some 3m adhesive and taped it down untill cure time was over. Held on for over a year until it was traded.
