Plastic junk roof trim broken!

Same. RTV and 3M VHB tape are staples in my toolbox!

I guess that will be my first "mod". I'll be proactive and hit it with this product before it even happens . Maybe put a small bead on top of that rivet behind the glass, just to make the bond between the rivet and trim stronger.

Had the same thing happen on my 2019, It was easier to trade it in on a Tremor

I'm not sure how much UV exposure is in the repair area, but this will turn yellow and become brittle with age. Something like Permatex black RTV will also have some needed elasticity since the cab expands and contracts with temperature.

Thanks! I didn't think about the expanding and contracting . But I figured if I was just reinforcing where it's mounted it wouldn't have been an issue . I'll check out the permatex.

Thanks! I didn't think about the expanding and contracting . But I figured if I was just reinforcing where it's mounted it wouldn't have been an issue . I'll check out the permatex.

I'm sure you'll sell the truck before it gets yellow I just prefer to do it better than the factory did and not think about it again.

Yep…..common issue. Poor design. Mine goes back the first week in January. They have to pull the back window, re-rivet the trim piece back in place and then reinstall the window. A complete PITA!!

Same here. For the winter I had the dealer silicon it down and will wait for warmer weather next year to pull rear glass etc. Crazy design

I just dropped my truck off this morning at the dealership to repair this POS plastic trim. My service guy said……”you really want to have us pull the window and re-rivet a new trim piece back down”? I said yes, it’s broke and a design. He totally agreed and said, “ what if I tell you it will likely break again. We have noticed the repairs aren’t holding up long term. There is too much tension on the plastic flimsy piece and it simply will break….again. If it were me, and what we have moved to is simply applying glue that won’t crack with wide temperature changes to the underside.“ He further added, “it will NOT void your warranty. Ultimately however we will gladly do whatever you want us to do”. My response………”glue that S.O.B. down”. No way I really wanted them to pull the rear window.

I can’t remember what I used of those two, either should work identically. I may have used Permatex ‘The Right Stuff’ black RTV.

It’s not really changed over the last several years since the initial repair, however the massive hail storm we had about 3-4 weeks ago broke every dang piece of plastic roof trim there is. So……it’s all getting replaced now. How, not sure. Super pissed about it. I inconveniently went out of the way at every opportunity I had to avoid door dings, scratches etc. It’s been babied. Now it looks like some fat girls cellulitic backside wrapped in silver spandex.

Did the same. Worked great no issues with car washes or the Vegas heat. I was weary of the issues guys were having after the hack job of rear window replacements. Leaks/fitment and what not.

Mine is broken too.

I could still get it repaired under warranty but chances are you'll end up with a new leaky rear window.
I'm going to repair it myself with black RTV before taking it to a dealer at 9am and having to wait until 5pm.
The dealer can't fix it themselves. The dealer told me they had to call someone about the glass??!!??
