WildPeak AT4W thoughts/opinions?

Perfect, I'll make sure to grab some new photos soon :ROFLMAO:

Actually, since we are both in Colorado, maybe I better get some better locking lug nuts first 😬

I love machined wheels. I flirted with some gunmetal wheels, but wanted to go machined on the Antimatter Blue. It seems most every truck wheel has a lot of fussiness on the outer edge, mostly fake of course. I love a good, clean design, and 8 spokes on an HD are perfect. These Echos just came out last November, and when I was searching for new wheels, these were love at first sight šŸ˜
I keep coming back to stare at your pictures. :ROFLMAO:

I don't even notice lug nuts.

Looking online, the ones you have seem to be a bit more than $500 each. I also kinda like the 6 spoke version. I'm case we ever meet up.

Is there a better deal somewhere that I'm missing?

And would you mind terribly, getting a side shot that shows how much "poke" there is outside the fender.

I think +12 is the way to go.

I was thinking about cramming some 37x11.50s on the stock rims, but i think with the weight of the diesel and all my tools the 12.50s are going to be the way to go. And they just look really, really good.

Black rims look good to me on a light colored truck, but there's something about machined aluminum that i really like.

I wonder

If you plan on towing, the AT4W are the ABSOLUTE worst set of tires I've ever towed with. Switched from the stock Duratracs, a 285/75-18 straight across to the AT4W (a 10-ply), and the side wall just washes out. Pulling the same trailer, same load (weight distribution, etc.), 1000's of miles. Got Discount to go to the 12-ply 35" - 12.5 x 18, and while a WAY better looking tire width-wise, these were even WORSE than the 10-ply. Made no sense. Ultimately went back to the RT Version of the Duratrac (as it now has a 50,000mi warranty) and I'm back to normal towing conditions (e.g., same load, etc). Might be worth noting, the 12-ply AT4W dropped almost 2mi/gal from 10.5 to 8.5, so weight does affect efficiency apparently.

Driving without a trailer, the AT4Ws were great, way quieter than the Duratracs (by a lot). We go to the Sand Dunes every two weeks from October to March and tow the same trailer, same SxS in the toyhauler, same fuel load, water, food, tools, etc., and the AT4Ws were almost dangerous in my opinion. My buddy who talked me into buying them originally, told of the same issue he has with them on is RAM 2500. Drive quiet without a trailer, but have a lot of washout when towing. He came from Ridge Grapplers towing the same trailer and same set-up. I'd avoid them if you're planning on towing anything above 9,000#.
I am running the 35/12.5/20 AT4ws in 12 ply, We have an 8500lb 5th wheel and I really like them for towing.
Don’t really notice the washout and just returned from TX back to SD and hit some big winds so I feel like I really got to test them. I don’t care for them on snow and ice though.
I have a set of 37/12.5/20 Bajas I run up here in the winter, hated them for towing (talk about washout) but the Bajas are best tire I have ever owned for snow and ice. I run the air pressure in the 40’s on them, seems to help with traction on the ice.
To each there own I guess!

You got it. Let me grab some fresh shots.

The six spoke is not made for our HD trucks, but does look good. I am infatuated with this wheel. It is everything I wanted aesthetically - clean design and flange, no fake beadlock look with gobs of fancy doodads, no nooks and crannies for mud accumulation, and machined. Then it adds a 4500 LB load rating while only weighing 33 LBs. I was happy to be the one to take a chance on this +12 wheel. If I had a lighter color, I would consider the black finish, but I really like machined wheels the most.

I'll PM you on pricing. Retail is $510 / wheel and they just launched a few months ago, but I managed a nice discount and free lug nuts.

Oh I want to see the black finish!

I run them on my 22' dually and tow quite heavy with no problem. Pulled a trailer through a whiteout on I-90 in Montana over the winter without issue. What was your wheel and tire setup that resulted in poor towing performance?

I bought the Black Rhino Echo and love them. I wanted something clean looking without all the rivet / bolt stuff that most every other wheel has. Style aside, they weigh only 33 LBs and have a 4500 LB weight rating. 18x9 +12 offset. Seems everyone running 9" wheels with +12 - +20 has no rubbing. I also feel better about a 9" wide rim for a 12.5" tire.

You suck. Every time you post these.... i start twitching.

Like you, I like a nice set of polished aluminum on a dark colored truck.

Hold the spikes, bolts, rivets and STARS, please. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
These have been on the radar too since I stumbled upon them checking out the Armoury and Arsenals.

I had been considering going up to 20ā€ rims with a +6 offset to open up the options for 37/38 tires down the line. I had hoped this would also potentially launch in a 20ā€ as well.

Alas, maybe I’ll have to go to 17ā€, but like you mentioned, I’d much rather a 9ā€ rim over the 8.5ā€.

Got an AMB as well (w/ darkened bronze), so I’ll echo the more pics. šŸ˜†

It’s either this, or I’m thinking of powdercoating one of their other rims with all the doodads…

Velvet, I added the photos to the wheel and tire reference thread. Enjoy!

Well, these might be moving up to the top of the new wheels to consider list. Looks great!

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy looking at all the cool, edgy, exciting wheels with doodads. Some awesome designs out there. But I guess it is like sports cars. My head turns at every Corvette, Ferrari, McLaren, and other exotic that passes by. But I have no interest to own one.

the only car I have a remote interest in owing is a Aston V12 Vanquish S.

But I'll most likely stick with 1 ton trucks until my time on this earth is no more

Add me to that list! A used Vanquish is my dream coupe. Date night car, as I say to my son. For now, my sleeper 4 door with supercharged V8 & manual transmission is more than I could have ever hoped for.

While we're digging on big ol' British saloons, have a look at Tom Walkinshaw's V12 XJS as set up for the pole-winning lap for the Bathurst 1000 in 1985, a race that's run annually all these years as part of the Australian Supercars (formerly Super Touring V8s, with other series' names preceeding this one).

Two minutes, 34 seconds

Thread topic ---> He wasn't running Falken AT4Ws, though!

Would have been faster if he was.

But for real, that was amazing!

Thanks for sharing.

Very close to advertised numbers:

Tread width is 9.4-9.5ā€ at widest spot
Weight on my scale is at 73.3

My Toyos tread width is at 9.9-10ā€.

Here’s the real world difference in width between toyo at3s and flaken at4s. both tires are at 45psi, on oem tremor rim.

Falken AT4 37/12.50/18 width = 12 5/16
Toyo AT3 37/12.50/18 width = 12 3/16

So approx. 1/8 of an inch difference. Might not seem like much, but that’s exactly by how much AT3 clears the sway bar on a factory suspension.

That should leave you ~1/16th of clearance though right? Although I bet thats close enough that it'd rub under any kind of dynamic load. Adding a small 3/8" spacer should be just the ticket (for those inclined to run those).

You get these on the truck yet? Eagerly waiting to see if it tucks up under the hitch as a spare.

Yep, you’re right the real test is once they are on the truck. And i can’t do that yet as one of the tires did not road force balance properly, upper limit is <25 and it balanced at 40. So i need to replace and it just happens that 37/12.50/18 are on national backorder again ( feels like Covid times). My shop is trying to figure it out with Falken, but likely it will be a wait again.

If it’s rubbing worse than i think, my first inclination is to remove the sway bar, 2nd option would be to add a 1/4 bora spacer. I will decide once i get there.

The spare scenario i can check for you soon. It does look to be a tad taller, but the only way to know for sure is to try it.

I called Discount Tire today to get a order going and they told me it will be 90 days. I've got a backorder for it but might just get some Toyo AT3s if the Falkens aren't in by the time my wheels/springs arrive.
