WildPeak AT4W thoughts/opinions?

37/12.50/18 size in particular are on national backorder, and Falken is planning to release of the next batch for late October.
1 had 3 opttions.

Ridge grapplers
Falken R/T
Les Schwab off brand bullshit.

The right choice was pretty easy to make. i did the les Schwab Backcountry from Deantires once before.
. Good at first, but the siping was very shallow, and they Just didn't handle very well. Even on an f150 with 20" rims.

they are awful in the snow. otherwise, they are great. balance with minimal weight and are smooth riding
Interesting. They worked flawlessly on my Dually SD from Missoula to Billings in a raging snowstorm. Anyone that has hauled or driven that stretch of I-90 in the winter can attest to the lack of snow maintenance.

I love these Wildpeak AT4W. Mine are 35x12.5x20 and friend of mine has the 37x12.5x20 on his 17 F350. The wear great, no scalloping, great offroad, and in snow. I live in New Hampshire and we get a lot snow/Ice.

The Wildpeak RTs are not great in the snow as they dont have the sipes and have blockier tread. These are on that friend's wife's Bronco. While they look cooler, not the best for winter use.

Unsure how anyone could say the AT4W are bad in the snow.

I suspect some of the "bad in snow" comments are from folks who went from the AT3W to the AT4W. From what I've been reading as I research for my eventual purchase is that while they increase the mileage rating on the tire with the AT4Ws, the snow and ice performance took a hit to make it happen. Now, rather than being better than the Toyos in snow, they're comparable//slightly worse.

Interesting.

I had mine microsiped when they were installed.

From past experience, it makes a huge difference on ice and packed snow.

Only went 1/4 deep for now to keep them from chunking out. They'll re do them every other rotation as necessary.

i got stuck on packed snow, flat ground, not high sided. 0 traction. had my truck in 4 low, diff locked. i had to dig down to the pavement to get going. they also were very sketchy on any turns. had to go much slower than i normally would in the snow.
i learned how to drive in the snow. i've been driving snowy winters for 34 years, i know how to drive in it.

duratracs, imo, are far superior in the snow

Snow type varies by region. So Midwest snow isn’t like northeast snow. The plains snow isn’t like mid Atlantic snow. I feel that some of the opinions on snow performance have, at least in part, to do with the type of snow.
That said, the only good thing I have experienced with the factory DTs is in mid Atlantic snow.

I had pretty good luck with the AT4W's in snow and I drove in all sorts of snow last year making snowmobile trips up to Wisconsin. I would say I prefer the duratrac in light or hard packed snow but not a crazy difference. Deep snow I was impressed as I had to go through the bigger storm in early march that dropped around 2' of snow.

Same.

I LOVE TOYO TIRES, and have loved them since my first set of z rated radials in the 90s.

I wanted Open Country at3s (again) , but they're on back order for months according to Les Schwab.

I asked about the at4w and the Micky Thompson Baja Boss... same story.

He said... how about some ridge grapplers?

I said... you know i work in the high mountains, right?

He's said. ... oh yeah, those suck in the snow, how about stepping up to the Falken R/T 01 HD.

I took one look at them and said... hell yeah!

Very, VERY, Happy.

WOW. Looks AMAZING! The wheels are so cool, and the quality and appearance of the finish are top notch.

I am really loving my Falkens on the same wheels. I see some question snow performance. Another guy posted they suck for towing, and yet in my experience the 37" Falkens felt much more stable than my 35" Duratracs. Maybe the wheel offset helps, having the wider stance. Regardless, they look great, they tow great, and I know for me I will not have problems in the snow.

My motivation for the AT4W was wet weather traction, life of tread, and quietness. No snow here in FL :D Came down here from the NE and happy to be clear of all that crap. I've had my AT4W's on now for a few months and a FAR cry from the crap Goodyear tires that come stock on these trucks.

Agreed. 1,000%.

Good year has a great marketing team.

But their tires suck ass.

In fact, the wife called me yesterday after hydroplaning in her expedition.

Guess what tires it has.......?

NOT FOR LONG.

Even thighthe GY whatever model they are are barely worn, they're fucking GONEZO!!!! New Falken at trails already on order.

This will be her 3rd set in a row. They are amazing tires as well.

IMO, Falken doesn't make a bad tire, and Good Year doesn't make a single good one.

Y'all guys can talk about snow all you like, but until you've lived in a place like this....

You just don't know.

You may have to drive in snow.

But you don't have to drive in snow over treacherous 12,000ft mountain passes going straight down hill.

I've been driving up here for 30 years and like to think I've got some experience behind my tire opinions.

I will never buy another set that don't say Toyo or Falken on them.

Asked about Baja Bosses, but they're now owned by Good Year. So..... no thank you.

The ATs are all on back order anyway. Except the Ridge grapplers, which i have zero interest in.

Toto at3s as well? I wonder whats driving this particular multi month backorder this time around?

I’ve got 3 well balanced 37/12.50/18 Falken AT4ws and one that had to be returned as it would not balance. Stock since June waiting for that 4th tire to become available😭

The good thing is im running on a set of my beloved toyo at3s 37/12.50/18, so no real issue and hopefully ill have that 1 at4w tire to mount a set in time for the winter months.

Couple more from the current job site.

Maybe I'll shine up the new rims, take a truck Pic and enter the next totm for the first time.

Having had both at3w’s and at4w’s the 4’s definitely took a little bit of a hit in the snow/ice department I used to be a toyo guy then ran nothing but at3w’s for years but now it’s back to a toss up toyo or falken guess it’ll depend on pricing and or my mood lol when the time comes
