Winch Install!

Here’s my low plate installed.

All I had to do was take the fairlead loose and slide it forward. There are acouple notches in the winch bracket and below the bumper that it snaps right into.

Interesting- Did you have to get to the back side of the bolts on the fairlead in order to tighten it back down? I was thinking that if I unbolted it then it may be a hassle to get it back on tightly.

I had to use an impact to get them off and back on because I could not fit a wrench in there. Without an impact it would be tough. Just be careful and don’t let the bolts fall out the back.

I was wondering if pulling the winch rope all the way out would give access to the bolts? The impact still sounds easier.

Good to know. I don't have an impact and tried pretty hard to make the wrenches work. I'm looking to replace the bolts and acorn nuts with stainless because I hate cheap fasteners that rust.

I just wish Ford had included the correct front license plate holder for people who bought the winch.

I by no means have lots of experience with winches but comparing the Warn on my Tremor to the Warn on my ATV, I feel my Tremor requires a “Magnus Ver Magnusson” effort trying to pull the dang thing out. Maybe it will spool more easily with repeated attempts. My ATV warn free spools very easily. Obviously different weight ratings and rope diameters. Just my observation.
 
After reading this thread, I decided that I wanted to install my winch. I have ordered the truck and the winch in Jan and the truck is due to be shipped this week. I called the dealer and the sales guy said that he would add a note to the sale that I will install the winch. However he also said that he wasn't sure but that some trucks come with the winch installed from the factory.

I am hoping that they are installed by the dealer. What do you all think? Has anyone heard of a winch being installed at the factory?

The factory does not install the winch.
 
That looked like quite a project, glad to order mine from ford. Yours is looking great.
