Winch Install!

Well, without removing a buncha big hunks, it's not a simple thing to get the bolts out that are holding the fairlead in place. You can't slip a wrench through the fairlead to hold the bolt heads while removing the acorn nuts, so depends on how involved one wants to get. The rusty acorn nuts bother me enough that I'll remove big hunks, but it won't be until I have a whole Saturday at my disposal.

Ugh that’s super annoying. Thanks so much for the update though.
The only reason I’m ticked is because this is all in the name of trying to get a front license plate installed. *eyeroll*

Yep, I get it. I don't have a front license plate although CT requires one....I'm just rebellious enough to not care and I've watched quite a number of police drive by and/or around me and not say a word.

So far that’s been my experience too... but I’ve only had the truck since Christmas.

Gotcha, picked mine up early December and don't intend to ever put a front plate on it. I carry the one that belongs on the front under the back seat and will be happy to show it to whomever pulls me over for not having it mounted, but after I show it, it's going right back under the seat.

What license plate bracket did you get? I didn't think there was one out there that fit behind those fairlead nuts since they are not a common fairlead size?

Do you remember where you trimmed it. Was it around the metal bracket in the bottom or did you install it under the metal bracket. TIA

I ordered mine with the winch, I am hoping the dealer can handle it. I have installed a bunch my self so I would actually prefer to do it myself but allowing the dealer to answer for any issues is part of paying the unbelievable premium for this lower end winch.

Im thinking of asking my dealer to add one to my ‘20. It only has the single battery but i think id rather have the dealer deal with the responsibilities. My inspection appointment is next saturday and im going to inquire about this then. Im sure itll cost me $$$$ buy hey, what doesnt nowadays.

My jeeps didn't have dual batteries. Most off-road rigs are not running dual batteries.

Mine will be installed later this week or next week. Hopefully will have photos. its a 2020 got last spring. Finally got the winch coming from the Parts counter at my local dealership.

The adaptive cruise module is located in the green circle. I don’t have adaptive cruise so that spot is just empty.

I believe there is a trim piece available to cover that area when you don't have the adaptive cruise control. But I can't remember where on this forum that I saw it

I have not found the time to install yet or even look in the box for that matter but I recall that you just dont cut away or discard the original plastic cover as much and it will keep this area covered. I'll have to go back and look myself but I think it was posted by a forum member that is also a Ford shop employee and he said it was the right thing to do in his mind and others agreed.

New member here. Iconic Silver F-250 Platinum Tremor build showed up last Monday. To my surprise there was no winch installed but it was on the build sheet and I was charged for it. Should have searched the inter web prior as neither I, nor my dealer new it was a dealer install. ?. after 15 mins of my salesman climbing the corporate ladder to get answers we realized the service manager had the winch sitting in his office. It arrived a week
prior to the truck. I decided to take the truck home and bring it back for the install today. Super glad I did as this was when I found this forum over the weekend. This Fordseniormasters build thread was a life saver. I downloaded all of his pics, printed out a colored and black and white instruction manual, took it all with me this morning where I requested to meet with the mechanic assigned to the build and the service GM. I pointed everything out, the do‘s and the dont’s. I even asked to have them drive it and recalibrate the adaptive cruise which they did. The service guys were alway a step ahead of me and new all of the issues I was referencing even though they had never installed a winch on a Tremor build. They did their home work. Install was spot on. Only thing not done was removing the “green rubberband”. I did that on my own and will pretension the rope cable tomorrow. As soon as I got it home I took off the warn hook and installed my new Factor 55 ultrahook. Looks way better with it installed. I’ll take some pics of it tomorrow. Only thing I am lacking now is the same Low mounted license plate that Legmar ordered. Thanks again to all who contributed to this thread, it was tremendously helpful.
