I'd like to add the following thread to this one. The mount is another idea that may interest others but best of all, the custom integration of the light bar is the most awesome thing I've seen to the bumper:

DISCLAIMER: This is not the mount I am designing but one that was lent to me last time I was at the dunes.

However, this shows how far the flag is from the bumper and hood. My mount, should have the flag about the same distance away as this. This also shows the idea of using a pool noodle to protect the hood. But after hearing the idea of a tennis ball, I've starting to think of possibly printing a smaller bumper that could slide over the whip out of TPU that could protect the hood. Stand by for further development on this idea as well. I still think that a 1/2" whip will have a hard time hitting the hood but an extra layer of protection is never a bad thing (Don't do it @Optimus🤖).

For everyone else, most of the material is arriving at home today and I get back from work travel tomorrow so should be able to make a good dent in orders between Christmas and New Years.

Possible yes...

However, here are some of my concerns with that:

• I already have a large quantity of the current version on hand. Ordering a quantity of another longer version would result in me having to charge more.
• I do not know how long I would have to make it to guarantee that it would not hit the hood.
  • Not selling the whip itself, some will flex more than others, which also would factor into if it hits or not.
  • I recommend a thicker whip to help prevent this.
  • And having something on the whip to soften it if it impacts help with this (pool noodle or tennis ball)
• Making this longer would also increase the moment arm acting on the 3D printed part, causing more stress in the 3D printed part. (probably not an issue??)

If you would like your two to be a custom longer length, let me know and I can look into what it would cost.

Let me order a whip and see how close it can actually get.

My whip arrived today, I got the 1/2" one I shared in post #53.

Can the whip hit the hood? I would say it is possible but it requires a lot of deflection of both the whip and the mount. I think this could happen if you are jumping your truck or hitting dunes very fast and hard but if you aren't doing these things I don't see how the whip could hit. I would still recommend a small bumper on the whip which would prevent this from causing damage if it were to hit. If you have a whip smaller than 1/2", it will increase the odds of this happening.

After the new year, I am going to start to work on designing a small bumper that can attach to the whip to prevent any damage.

Installation Note:
Installing this on the truck with the whip, I did notice that if the mount is not tight it can move more than it should. When you install the mount, ensure that you get it clamped down tight. The 3D printed part should not move when the whip is bent.

Well Santa brought a little extra gift for me this year in the form of the flu. It kicked my *** and I got the joy of spending Christmas day sleeping on the couch alone and was basically dead to the world for the 2 days after. But I am finally starting to feel like myself again and getting back to printing. Orders should be starting to flow again and there is a chance I could have them all completed yet this week.

I also printed my first attempt at TPU to use as a bumper for the whip. This one ended up printing a lot harder than I thought it would so need to make some changes to it so that it actually protects the hood and doesn't just beat it more. Side note, the filament appears to match the bronco's paint color way closer than I would have thought.

The bumper would be easily removable and, with different inserts, could fit a wide range of whip sizes.

I wonder if you could take one of those airless basketballs and shrink it down would it do the trick…

That's horrible to feel like shit during the holiday, brother. Glad you recovered quickly.

For those who are worried about the pole hitting their hood maybe shouldn't be going off-roading in the dunes.

Thanks for the feedback. Without the locating pins, it just never seemed to fit right. I was surprised on how well they caused the fit to improve.

Thank you! That was FAST! I received my whip mount two or three days ago. Only had a chance to fuss with it yesterday.

The widest portion of the internal diameter bulk of the 3D material I must relieve maybe 1/32 or 1/16" or the upper and lower halves won't sit squarely in place on the tow hook loop. 2025 F350 XLT Tremor, so the loops are coated black, not chrome. Are there any other reports of this?

Better to have it too tight a fit at first, right, Optimus? Don't answer that.

Then if necessary some slight material removal should have it fit perfectly. The nice thing about this is the slight witness on the material where it needs to be relieved.

Not sure I am following the issue you had here? My tow hooks are also black and not chrome.

Do you have any pictures of the the area that wasn't fitting?

If it doesn't fit and I need to make some changes and ship any replacements, just let me know. I will make it right if it isn't fitting.
