"Made it to Vegas" really!? Really man? No heads up or anything? I better see this shit on your way back and we'll have some beers somewhere. The next chapter is starting. Made it to Vegas this afternoon on my way up to Colorado. It's finally starting to feel real
It's still over 100 degrees here. My pup is not a fan of the heat and not a fan of hotel elevators. We'll take the stairs when going for a short walk in a little bit.
Met forum member @Chadx and his wife yesterday. Checked out their Supertramp camper and of course gave them a tour of my new rig. Chad took me camping to some beautiful area on BLM land nearby. It was very windy and I am happy to report that the Rossmonster Baja did great. I barely heard the wind and the wind gusts and had a wonderful night of sleep.
Check out my latest thread on fitting a 37. Someone had a good idea there that might suffice you, even if that spare is not a toyo rt trail but an at3, it’s still a 37 and they are nearly identical at 36.5 and very similar in weight. Save some serious coin on that trophy hitch.Unexpected build cost increase.
I need to add the Carli Trophy hitch to the build. Originally, Rossmonster had told me that the (deflated) 37" spare would fit into the factory spare tire location. However - that seems to be tire dependent, and a new Toyo Open Country Trail on an 18" wheel will not work. Rossmonster has gotten a 37" spare in for other builds, but apparently, those were different tires and I seem to be the first using the TOC Trail.
I know we discussed this in the forum here a few times. A few people made this work using a used tire with significant less tread, others went with a smaller size (35") tire, and I also saw the video from Colt (Colt's Way) about how he struggled to get the spare into the factory hitch location.
I think the right move is to go with the Trophy hitch. I am mostly traveling and things like this need to be simple and support me so that I am not stuck somewhere. Rather would have invested that money differently, but so be it.
No, today was all Montana. Montana has quite a few areas that look a bit like Wyoming though.Looks like Wyoming. Am I close?

If that was a Tremor that last pic could definitely be TOTM!!! Too bad it’s “just” a long bed F350 hahahahaha.I am now in the PNW and had a first night of rain coming down on the rig. You hear it, but overall it was very good.
So, how is the rig so far?
The Carli Pintop suspension with the XXHD leafs is really well tuned for this rig. It's a heavy rig, but the suspension absorbs a lot. I am really impressed. Love it!
MPG so far since the conversion was completed has been 10.5 MPG. I take that. I expected worse, but have also not done any really challenging off-road trails.
The heating works as advertised. I had a few colder nights and I am still trying to find the sweet spot for the temperature setting to keep the dog warm when she a) sleeps on the floor rug that I put in as well as b) when I leave the pass-through to the cab open. The dog likes to roam around between the cab and the camper during the night. The pass-through cover is great. One night when I had it closed and opened it in the morning, the truck cab side of the cover was icecold while the cabin side of the camper was room temperature warm (65-ish). I am sure I will close it off often during really cold nights, but I am willing to live with it being open to give the dog her freedom. I also thought about potentially installing a Webasto heater inside the truck cab with one duct staying in the truck and a second duct going into the camper. The Aqua Hot has limits like any heating system in an RV, and this would allow me to be in really cold climate during Winter. Not sure yet. I am also considering getting custom insulated window coverings made for the Super Duty cab windows.
Negative so far? There is not much. I was off-roading and it got really bumpy for a moment and one of the cabinets opened up and everything fell out. I will get some shelving rails and install them to prevent this from happening again.
I noticed a minor seal gap at the camper door and have reached out to Rossmonster about it today.
I need some shelving for the outside storage boxes to make better use of the space and I am probably adding some shelves to 2-3 of the inside upper cabinets for better storage organizing. Also looking for some additional storage organizing things now that I have a better understanding of where I sit at night, what I need access to and so.
Getting there. But overall, I feel significantly more confident that this rig has everything I need to be compared to the Supertramp that always required another change and another upgrade (for my specific use-case).

I don't know what you are talking aboutLove it!
P.S. What the heck is that blinking way up in that tree behind you? (Inside joke)
Discrimination!!!!!If that was a Tremor that last pic could definitely be TOTM!!! Too bad it’s “just” a long bed F350 hahahahaha.
I did not consider the F450/F550 for this build as they did not offer the Baja for that platform at that time. They now have the Baja+ which looks amazing in person and is specifically made for the RAM 5500 and the F550.Looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait to see/watch your continued adventures.
On a side note.... and maybe you discussed, but I missed it..... did you ever consider a super single conversion on F450/550 for this build? I know it is already large in size and budget, but any other limiting factors or reason for F350?
Looking forward to some in-depth YouTube videos soon.
...If the Baja+ would have been available before Rossmonster changed their distribution channel/direct to consumer sales model...
Yes, exactly. Will be interesting to see if this new distribution model pans out for them. The Baja now starts at $369K which is way out my price range for sure (even though it includes the truck). That change from direct sales to dealership sounds like a significant bump in cost to the end buyer. So glad you slipped in under the wire and got direct pricing!
The one I climbed around at ExpoEast last week was priced at $389k, tbh I was a little stunned. It was nice but $400k is a lot of money!Yes, exactly. Will be interesting to see if this new distribution model pans out for them. The Baja now starts at $369K which is way out my price range for sure (even though it includes the truck).
