CAN I PULL A 5TH WHEEL LUXURY TOY HAULER SAFELY WITH MY TREMOR. CAN I ALSO ADD MY CARLI PINTOP 2.5 KIT

My wife doesn’t understand that it takes about 10 feet before the trailer reacts.
My wife doesn’t understand that it takes about 10 feet before the trailer reacts.
Then add in blind side backing, kids on bikes riding behind you, in front of you, standing next to your fenders Starring at you and then the person who wants to talk to you while all this is going on. Great!!!! Now I need a drink. Haha

I can’t believe how much my mind is flip flopping on the quest of to go the 5er route or not.
I’m one to live life on the edge of a 70-90 story building as my sweat is dripping off me, Dropping down to the fools below staring at me like I’m a freak. As the crowds line up on the sidewalk trying to see a show, as I’m trying to set a 3 ton girder into a very tight connection, while I’m not blinking an eye.
But now figuring if it would be wise to be so close to the legal limit to haul my mighty capable Diesel BEAST with a 5er. My younger self would pitty my older self now.
I want a 5er so bad. It’s nicer from what I see in floor plans. It’s easier to ride and park than the travel trailers, as my good friends tell me.
Then comes some advice from some that gets me to say fuck that. With having my 5er getting impounded if it sweeks past the limit.
My family of NY PD officers won’t get me out of a jam if I’m in another state across the country.
So I look at travel trailers and say yeah this can work, until someone else says fuck that Donny get your 5er. Right back yo the 5er I go, saying yeah others are doing this. DONT BE A PUSSY. JUST KEEP YOUR HITCH WEIGHT AS LOW AS YOU CAN AND JUST GO WITH A SHORTER ONE.
I’m venting my frustrations to you great wise ol dudes. I just got a email from the Arrogant Keystone RV Forum. Black stone just got me thinking I can do the 5er route again.
So flip flopping away as my mind spins with so many thoughts. Here’s the email that changed my mind again.
I have many friends on here saying I will have no problem pulling her. So again Thanks for all the wisdom being presented to me. I like hearing the bad side of things as much as the good side. I’m as green as they come.
?????????
Don ?

Basically long story short. Yes your truck CAN pull it. tons and tons and tons of people tow giants with a much less capable truck. Most likely you’ll be fine. The issue is, that 1 in 100,000 times something goes wrong. Memorial weekend, 1 mile from my house with the 5er loaded up and headed to camp I was coming down a steep hill at the end of my road at 20mph when some jack ass at the base of the hill started a 3 point turn infront of me. I damn near ran over him. Thank God I was able to stop. Now had I hit him and had been overweight, what would have happened to me? Sure he made the turn, but would my truck being overloaded been a large contributing factor? Yup.

Yeah thats a worry for sure. I'm telling myself I can go this route and just get a F450 down the road. Pull it with my beast for now and enjoy it for awhile. The GD 320G is 2,300 hitch weight. Then the generator brings it to 2,500lbs. The hitch, air bag set up, and my old lady and I puts it probably a bit over I'm thinking.
Or I can get that travel toy hauler GD 31G with hitch weight of 1,600lbs, and get my Carli Pintop kit installed. I get to slap my new Methods with the 37' wheels with my drop hitch on. I get to load my bed with supplies and be in the same boat on just making legal limit or slightly over. I can make adjustments to make sure I'm under.
Lots of praying for guidance from the Lord above. No worries just a bit of a mind fuck until I figure out what to do. Its kind of black and white right now. As i say it out loud the answer I seek is staring me in the face. I should not feel the temptations to do what I want but I do. I feel it. LOL. ? ? ? ???;)

Swing by the cat scale with a full tank of fuel and the wifey and get a truck weight and see EXACTLY where the numbers are. Then on paper start figuring numbers. I started using an Anderson hitch which is less then 50lbs in the bed.

If you go with an Anderson ultimate hitch or one of the other similar options you can save yourself a lot of payload that way. They weight 30-40 lbs vs 200-300 for a traditional hitch. ??

Find a dealer within a hour drive from your house, settle on a unit, jump in with both feet and get ready to have some new kinds of experiences! Go for it man! Trust, if my family can safely and successfully do it anyone can. Go the “crash course” route. Sometimes it’s the only way.

Had to use mine two separate occasions. Two different places. But if you need to save a couple hundred pounds, you gotta take a chance .
I’m just tossing ideas out there. Let’s stop being foolish. Iron man is getting a 5th wheel toy hauler. Lol

Not trying to rain on anybody’s parade, but the 2300 lb hitch weight you reference on the GD 320G is an estimate of what you can expect when you buy it (unloaded). Unless I’m confused, once you load it with however many pounds of personal gear (and it does add up), that number is no longer any good. By nature of the design, hich weight is affected on toyhaulers differently than other trailers due to the amount of whatever weight is loaded in the rear/garage, but I’d still take that into consideration while shopping any camper setup. I know some reference a 20% gross trailer weight for the hitch weight, but that is all dependent on how the trailer is loaded.

All that to basically say I believe manufacture/website hitch weights are misleading.

I thought someone said that when you load the back end of a toy hauler with a 900 lbs Harley or 1,500lbs side by side the weight of the hitch is lessened. I’m also in no way going from experience but from what others say.
Lone Star said he bought the 350G and it advertised the hitch weight of 2,600 lbs but it wound up being 2,800lbs with the generator.
This is things I need to know before finally making my decision. So I need the facts Jack as Bill Murray would say. Thanks Bro giving me something else to investigate. ???????

I found one for yo

Don’t forget to put 5grand aside for a golf cart. And for you, maybe 10. As you might want a custom cart that looks like your tremor

Grand design gives you a vin specific sheet with all the weights from when the trailer is complete. My weight on my trucks rear axle increased by 3280lbs from my first weight (truck, me and a 4 year old)
Now my 2nd was WITH approximately 160lbs of 9 year olds added in the backseat, my wife upfront and my Anderson hitch over the axle and a fully packed rig. In the garage was my electric golf cart (weight unknown) a black stone grill, 3 bicycles, and other random crap.

So, loading up the rear lessens the load on the pin. This is true, but only to an extent. Your axles are your fulcrum and either end of the trailer beyond the axles is your lever. Aft of the axles your lever is short so more effort is required to lift the front. Think see-saw. So, for example, 500 lbs in the garage may only take 75-100 lbs off the pin with the rest on the axles. Weight in the bedroom, the basement or the generator storage will be pretty much 1:1 over the pin. Just stuff to consider.
