What’s in your gun safe?

Looking for a good truck gun besides my 9mm. What do y’all recommend? 5.56 pdw, 300 Blackout pdw, 9mm pcc, 45 acp pcc?
Generally speaking if you have time to retrieve a long arm/pcc or similar you probably shouldn’t be using it because you should be getting TF out of the danger zone

Like going back to your car to get a gun and return is almost always the wrong move and if you’re in the driver seat of a truck using the skinny pedal is usually better than going for a gun. Usually. And when a firearm is called for, carry pistol for one handed ease of use

That said my preference is to keep a backbit secondary carry pistol locked securely in the truck in case something happens to my primary carry pistol, including holster. Also to be able to give it to another qualified person who is without pistol so they can generally be armed (probably family member)

When traveling I add a long gun but it’s mostly to bring it inside for home defense overnight when away from home

For that I think a 556 carbine is great but it’s mostly a matter of what YOU are trained and proficient with. IMO if youre going shoulder fired and something larger than a pistol you may as well get rifle ballistics out of it because Rifld are rifles and pistols are pistols

But….”I wish I had a pistol instead of this rifle“, said no one. Ever.

Look up the survival statistics for humans shot with a pistol caliber vs a rifle caliber. It’s sobering. In the unlikely event I ever find myself in a gunfight, I will take any opportunity to have a rifle in my hands vs. a pistol.

How do you secure that firearm when you are not in the truck?

I think a rifle caliber in a truck over a pistol caliber. The pistol caliber should be on your person. And we need to keep in mind a truck gun is not necessarily for 2-legged critters and self defense. The density of deer in WV is probably higher than mosquitos in Florida. Its not uncommon to be driving down a county road and see an injured deer flopping around in a ditch after being hit. I feel a lot better and more humane using a rifle caliber for the task. I agree that in a self defense scenario if you have to return to your vehicle there is a likelihood that you should just leave. But we also don't always ask for the situation we are exposed to. But if you return with a rifle even in an active shooter environment you better be on the phone with 911 reiterating to tell the police to not shoot the guy matching your description. Even then its probably 50/50. Better to have and not need than need and not have. Options and adaptability are king.

The world is no longer survival of the fittest, its survival of the most adaptable. Sam Colt made sure that surviving does rely on how many push ups a person can do.

I don’t disagree with anything in your post except the implicit assumption that a handgun is an analog for or possibly a replacement for a rifle caliber when the poster’s question specifically references two rifle calibers and truck storage. It demonstrably is not.

I actually wholeheartedly agree that if driving is an option it is very likely better to drive your 8000 pound weapon than to stop and shoot.

I, too, stand by my statement that a service caliber pistol is a poor replacement for a rifle in a fight. For that matter, shouldn’t the original poster already be carrying a handgun on their person instead of one attached in some way to the truck?

Yes it should be on your person and not the truck 100%. And I would argue at all times as well, no fiddling around remembering and handling it and moving it back and forth

Carry one gun in one position in the same condition all the time. KISS

My point is that in the real world taking actions for your safety and legality, it’s almost never rifle be pistol caliber it’s abiding entirely vs choosing to engage or legal bs illegal, mostly, if getting a long arm out of your truck is the context bs driving or running away (with the pistol you carry)

I’ve been in this stuff a long time and a statistic you won’t find is people who used a rifle that was stored in their vehicle it’s not practically speaking much of a thing how we firearms stolen out of vehicles is a HUGE thing

I took removed my Geissele's and went to all LaRue MBT's, if you need another option.
I was just curious I have all of the above and the SSA-E X from a first gen Super Duty (lol totally different kinda duty duty) and ams have some of the larue

The LaRue is defined the better value I got the first one back when they were $89

The feud between those two lol

I'm not reading details... but did you say they're feuding?

Would that make this thread a fuddfight?

Mark (LaRue) vs Bill (Geissele) goes back years

Theyre old enough we could call it a fuddfight lol (Ik fudd isn’t an age but ill stop short of going into how that may be fitting on some people opinions here)

I enjoy and appreciate everyone's taste in firearms. I just don't talk a lot about it online.

My safe is a lot lighter than most here, and i only nerd out over a few certain types, but you know... I'm down with it.

I have a range out my back door, and hunt in my yard, but i just don't post many gun pics online.

Also thanks forum. This recent gun thread chatter over the weekend got me curious to stray away from truck stuff while on call and found a new grip module for my p365xl.

Not that I don’t love my macro frame with xl slide. But I’ve gone back towards the point of being/thinking while I like the macro it takes a small gun and makes it fuller size. So I stumbled upon Mirzon hybrid grip module

This will give me XL grip length with macro rail. Additionally I like the bigger beaver tail (cue Optimus), and the trigger guard serrations.

I have mag guts +2 kits for my mags and if I like the grip can even run 15rd mad that fit flush with an aluminum adapter plate from company. If I need more than 15rds I’m beyond likely legally explaining having no option than keep pulling the trigger and at that point all bets are off and reloads are coming…

I just picked up a sharps bros grip module. Probably install it tomorrow, changing things up a bit. Going away from RMR’s and just running suppressor height sites, glowing front dot and blacked out rears. My eyes aren’t what they used to be so this sort of set up is a lot easier on me

Interested to hear how you like the sharp bros. Is it your first aluminum/metal frame for p365? I’ve not yet gone down that rabbit hole. I’ve stuck to polymer. I did hold a metal Icarus at bass pro about a year ago and it was very nice.

I just installed the Mirzon I posted about. Feels very good in my hand. I’ve had to order so tactical development baseplates for my 12rd mags now. But best I can describe is:
Stock grip was a little narrow/thin for me. Wasn’t bad just left me wanting more and with modularity of p365 platform it’s an easy itch to scratch.
Wilson combat thicker grip filled hand better but the grip checkering was too abrasive.
Armorycraft xmacro frame in charcoal gray was great for their stippling and grip and colors. However as I’ve lost weight it’s gotten harder to conceal the longer grip when I AIWB carry. So I’ve decided I’m ok giving up a couple rounds for easier concealment. However I couldn’t just got back to what I’ve had so had to try something new…

Again so far really happy. Now need to get some range time. Added plus was the Mirzon fits macro holsters as it has macro picatinny rail not the p365xl sig rail.

Got a second wind this evening and installed the sharps bros module. I’ve only handled a fuse or something that was all aluminum but I did like it. The sharps module I ended up with… I’m not sold on it. Gonna find an oem XL module and move all my stuff to that. It’s a fair amount wider which wasn’t what I was going for. Full featured though I do enjoy the perches for your forward thumb and what not.
