Show me your Starlink mounts (or ones you’ve seen)

I know what StarLink is/does. Some people post StarLink download speeds while driving.....I'm not sure what purpose that is being met with StarLink in use while driving.

So…. Depending on who you are or what you do I guess.

My wife works remote and has “unlimited” vacation (as long as she gets her work done) so not unlimited at all. I get 7 weeks vacation so when we travel together across the country she works right from the truck. Since we live in NY and travel together across the country several times a year she has days at a time to work from the road. She is able to work and take video calls from anywhere without issue.

We actually installed the RAM Laptop Mount system in the truck so she has a work station. It works incredibly well and she’s comfortable using it for 8 hour plus days.

Personally… I have only found it useful one time when I was trapped by fallen trees from several tornados in the Mark Twain National forest. I was not only able to contact the forest service for help but also entertain myself for a full day while I waited.

Unfortunately, the times I'll want to have the Starlink deployed are also when I'm more than likely going to have the gear pods on the roof. Otherwise, on the daily, I end up using my pano roof a bunch. Neat setup though for those that the roof rack/use of pano is not important.

I don't have a mount yet, but the mini fits above the retractable moonroof shade. Open the shade about 6" and place the Mini in there. One edge of the Mini rests on the stiff headliner facing the front of the truck, and the backrest is on top of the stiff lip of the moonroof shade. You are able to tuck in the power cable along the headliner to just behind the passenger headrest, wrap it around so it holds, and then continue down to the cigarette lighter behind the center console.

I rarely use/need it in my vehicle, but it has come in handy the few times I need it. This last weekend, we were in the national forest to cut down our Christmas tree, and there was no signal for another 45 minutes of driving towards the nearest town. Also, last month, we camped in Big Sur, CA, and we did not have any signal the entire trip, including driving on Highway 1. It came in handy for having the wife research the next hiking trails in a pinch. Lastly, my local shooting range has no cell reception, so having my wife be able to call me in an emergency is convenient.

On a side note, I really like the mini. If you 3D print some mounts, it fits inside the lip of an Apache 3800 gun case found at Harbor Freight, and it powers on with USB batteries or drill batteries. I don't use it powered on inside with the case closed, but I still tested it, and it was able to connect just fine.

with a ton of streaming last month I was only at 86GB. My bill came out to $86. Still a ton cheaper than the unlimited plan.

When the family is at my cabin we will use 365GB in a weekend we have unlimited roam.

The inverter in the truck will run starlink no problem. I just plug it into the dash.

I couldn’t go through 365 GB in a month if I wanted to. I don’t care about consumption. I use what I use and pay the bill. 86 was a BUSY month for me. I’d have to double the consumption to make the Unlimited plan feasible. I can’t see that happenings

yall already saw my setup. Wife works remote so this allows her to work uninterrupted on the road. Plus kid can use tablet. We got it for when we boondock camp so she can work and I can watch football. I like the idea of no contract. We mainly use it in winter camping hunting/fishing and cross country trips. We had a mobile Hotspot but didn't work most places.

Agreed...but if your high use unlimited is cheap. It's a great deal for all users once you get the gear.

I thought about going Roam for the lake house so I could pause, but when I did the math (I think its $120 vs 150 or maybe $200) for the ability to pause. It wasn't worth it if we went one or two extra times throughout the winter. Plus roam loses priority access which is important if my wife needs to work.

Got this same email last night. I had been wanting to order anyways after missing out on the initial launch deal. Glad I waited. Only problem is they have now sent me 13 delivery date emails so far today. Every single one is exactly the same dates just sent to me every 60 minutes exactly.

Probably going to go with the suction cups on the panoramic roof like others.

Suction cups for me. Each one holds around 200lbs if I recall. I check them each morning and can reach them from the back door of my camper without a ladder or any kind of step.

I wanted something removable since technology changes sooooooooooo fast and I’m sure this won’t be the last dish I have on the roof.

That said if I had T track or L track on the roof making a simple bracket that spans the track and gives infinite mounting options would be even better.

Bottom line I didn’t want to be stuck with one mounting location and so far over 15k miles these have given me zero trouble.

How do you pass the cable into the camper? Moar pics please!
