Show me your Starlink mounts (or ones you’ve seen)

When it's locked, does it prevent someone from simply unclipping the kickstand and running off with your starlink mini?

This would seem like an obvious thing if you're offering a lock, but the product description mentions that you can unclip the kickstand if you don't want to purchase the quick release power cable extension.
It's the same as the fire extinguisher mounts and locks. It would only keep the honest person from getting it. It keeps the entire mount locked. They also have a metal kick stand that uses set screws to lock the dish in place as an antitheft mechanism. A thief would have to have the locking hex key to get it. But they will not be able to just push the kickstand in and grab it or break the kickstand and take it. But, depending on where it's mounted all you have to do is pull the red knob unplug the cable and take it inside with you. I am not worried about it on the boat or my truck. Truck is so tall and hard to get to without being noticed. But when in Moab and going to dinner and having to park on some back or side street. I would just unclip it and take it inside with me as the SxS is low and easily accessible.

@Fozzy : Can you list the main mounting hardware size for that mount?? I'm leaning to use that mount as well on a truck rack cross bar.
 
Just wrapped up my first full week using Starlink Mobile on the road and wanted to share some observations — both pros and cons.

The Good:
• Excellent Rural Performance:
The connection is solid in rural areas, which is perfect since I spend most of my day outside city limits. Reliable speeds and stable signal — definitely a highlight.
• Overall Experience:
Despite a few quirks, I’m overall pleased with the setup. It’s doing what I hoped it would do in the places I need it most.

The Not-So-Good:
• Orientation Matters:
I’ve noticed it doesn’t “love” the straight-up mounting orientation. The signal seems to get partially obstructed quite a bit. I’ll be experimenting with other angles or placements to improve this.
• Urban Performance:
In cities, performance drops noticeably. I’ve experienced frequent disconnects and reconnections, which makes it less reliable in urban environments.
• Data Usage:
Be prepared — this thing definitely eats data. One week on the road with mostly calls and podcast streaming chewed through around 20GB. Something to keep an eye on if you have usage limits.

Final Thoughts:
Starlink Mobile shines in rural areas and covers my core needs well. There are definitely a few areas for improvement, especially in city performance and data efficiency, but overall, I’m happy with it so far. Just thought I’d share for anyone else considering it for mobile use.

@SantaCruzT100 : So you used the Starlink Mini Anti-Theft Metal Mount, mounted it to the forward most pair of mount holes on the Starlink Mini Mount?? Any speed testing for security or vibrations yet??

Correct. I've driven with it at freeway speeds and I can't hear it and it doesn't rattle at all. It seems secure but I haven't driven off-road yet with it. It seems pretty secure.
 
Doesn't this thing like to be pointed to the north sky so do you guys adjust your truck mounts with consideration of the orientation of travel? I see you guys say flat isn't the best but probably the best under these circumstances until one of you brains builds some weird auto orient gimbal mount.

If you’re on a higher bandwidth plan, the satellite position will begin to matter more, but still less than you’d think. I use the 50mbps plan and can easily saturate it when flat against the moonroof glass. My buddy runs a mini on the dash of his jet and can saturate the 50mbps plan at 500+ mph in the flight levels.

Orientation isn’t critical.

How the hell do you check that? I have the mini roam and normal at my FiL lake house.

Just run a speed test - if it’s struggling to hit the speeds in your plan, you may have alignment or obstruction issues. If it jumps right to 10-15% over plan, you’re saturating it.
Oh nice. Couldn't tell you what my plan speeds are lol. Lake house is just residential priority and it'll peg 250-300 most days.

The mini I haven't fired up yet but it's the roam mobility for $30/mo

The antenna is a beam forming antenna and the beam actually moves within the antenna electronically, not physically. The beam is at an angle to the flat surface; thus, the antenna physical mount is angled for the best reception of the transmission signal. It's not North or South, etc., it's the beam forming.

This video is for geeks but gives a good visual on how the antenna is transmitting and receiving and shows the angled output of the beam. It's long and somewhat high-tech talk, but very informative. (Tongue in cheek advertisements as well.)

I am twenty minutes in going over the phase array and how they bend them by changing the timing to adjust the wavefront peak directions. This is wild as fuck. I see the part where it talks about only 100° adjustment. This explains why you still want to tilt the dish at least for a perm solution to maximize the saturations and bending.
