Rough Country Hidden Winch Mount

might be a stupid question, but how are folks trimming the plate? Do I need specialized gear or take it to a shop?

I don't the mount or seen one in person but I remember reading in this thread somebody used a bandsaw to cut it down. I'm sure that or a grinder would be plenty good to cut them down. Depending how good you are with a grinder, you might not end up with a super straight or clean edge.

I used grinder with cutoff wheel. Used a straight edge first couple passes and finished the cut free hand
^ pretty much the same for me, you can free hand it & see where you need to cut.

From Facebook. Fits on 23 models with 6.7 and with the badlands winch. He had to trim the back of the plate .5” like mentioned here. I ordered one with the rough country winch I also have a zeon 12s I’m going to try but I doubt it will fit. He says it works with his adaptive cruise by trimming the mounting studs. We will see how it goes.

My winch came fast and the bracket will be here Tuesday. If I can modify the winch plate to fit the zeon I will but it is a good bit wider.

Rough Country: that's the first red flag.

Not really, maybe their other shit but I have had tons of winches/set ups over the years in my Land Cruisers from Warn, Come up and even the Smittybilt wireless and I can tell you this RC bracket + their winch is a ton of value for the money, pair it with a Factor 55 fairlead + flat link and you are golden

It literally has stitch welds and is not fully welded for a winch plate, That is not quality.

This reminded me of a saying I heard. Something like, think about how dumb the average person is and think that half of people are dumber than that. Anyway…

I installed the rough country winch. Zeon would probably fit but everything is too heavy and I’m getting too old to wrestle with this stuff. You’d also have to cut the top piece on the it because it would interfere with the winch line that now comes out the top. That replacement piece is $150 if I screwed it up or needed the winch in something else later.

The rough country winch went in easily with no mods. Adaptive cruise parts fit perfectly. Not sure where I’m going to put the remote extension yet but I’ll find a place. I installed the warn kit on my 22 and it was definitely not $1500 nicer than this kit.

Just installed the Rough Country Mount with Warn VR Evo 12s on a 2022 tremor diesel. I got the "updated" kit and no cutting or modifications were needed at all. Everything bolts up nicely with enough clearance all around. I ordered a warn wiring extension kit and put the control box up behind the drivers side battery. The winch has a Wired/Wireless remote which is awesome. I have ordered the WARN #86473 tie rod kit to give the rope more clearance since it's spooling out of the top now. Otherwise a very easy and clean install.

Mind sending details, pictures? I’m interested in the setup

Do you have a PN for the wiring extension ?

Is the "updated" kit what I would receive if I order one now?

Didn't take any pictures.

The updated kit is what I received, I'd assume they would send you the same thing.

Everything fits with clearance, but you do NEED to change out the winch top plate to the "Tie Rods"
Warn #86473 for proper function.

Overall, I think this is better than the OEM Warn kit. Waterproof/more service parts available/more rope length. The drum release handle is bigger and easier to use. And Most importantly, The remote is integrated and doesn't need a dongle plugged in.

Oh, and it's about 1k cheaper

Has anyone confirmed whether or not the Warn Zeon 12s or the Warn Zeon 12s platinum winch fits in the stock ‘22 bumper with the RC mounting kit?

Am I better off just sticking with the Evo 12s?
