Rough Country Hidden Winch Mount

Hey all,

Awesome thread. I have been on the fence here for months but rdy to pull the trigger. I have a 25 Tremor 6.7, but it looks like the bracket will be fine for that.

Did anyone end up installing the Sherpa 12k Colt? I saw someone installed the 17K with some mods, but curious if the 12k is easier due to being smaller. If I can I would prefer to use that over the RC 12k

Thanks

(Hopefully there are some sales tomorrow)
I'm the Sherpa 17k guy. Looking at my photos from my install and the dimensions that Sherpa publishes (https://sherpa4x4.com/pages/data-sheets), it looks like the Colt would mount up without any modification. I hope that helps.

I'm having issues with my Rough Country PRO12000S. I noticed that my Factor55 E-Link was not tight to the fairlead, so I made sure it was engaged and hooked my controller up to tighten it up. It would not get any tighter and I was even able to pull the rope out while it was engaged and while holding it, I could keep it from pulling in. Does anyone know what I need to look at first, or should I contact Rough Country under warranty?

Sounds like you have your winch in freespool

I really like this, after factory ordering my Superduty, I was kicking myself for not adding the factory winch. Now with hearing a number of issues, I’m happy I didn’t. One thing about this rough country mount, it doesn’t say the weight rating on it, but in the options for buying it’s paired with a 12000 lb winch so I would expect it should be rated for that. My other question is it specifically says it’s for 250, I have a 350 and on the website it said it wouldn’t fit, so not sure what that’s about.

If anyone can figure out what warn winch or other brand which would fit please post about it.
I have the OEM Ford Warn Winch and it's been good for me so far. In fact so good I pulled a truck out of a ditch directly into myself. 🫨Also, I had looked at getting it installed, I bought it after the fact also (got a crazy hookup on it), and It was going to be super expensive to get installed (at least by my standards) and several shops said they didn't want to do it, which made it seem like it must be very difficult. So, I hiked up my big boy pants, made the time and did it myself. Was actually pretty straightforward. Took me roughly a Saturday with a couple of pops and a lunch break. Only needed an extra hand for about 5 min when it came time to drop the bumper, mainly because I didn't know what to expect. The rest did solo. Probably should take a shop with experience 4-5 hours.

Now, I am concerned seeing everyone's comments about issues on the OEM Warn. I haven't had any and the install was pretty easy. Can anyone enlighten me with the troubles people have had so I can be proactive?

Figured I'd post up here in case others are still looking at various options. Went with a bit of a different combo, that there wasn't much info on in hopes it'd work out well and it turned out really well I think. Been looking at the RC Mount for a while but had held off as I wasn't sure if I'd keep stock bumper, and knew I wanted to change both front and rear bumpers up and figured I should figure that out first. Finally, pulled the trigger on a steal bumper kit that's all over ebay. I wasn't sure how I'd like it and was a little worried there'd be fitment or other QC issues but I 'm extremely happy with it and hardware, instructions, and fit was excellent.

There's was an official winch mount kit offered for this bumper, however looking over instruction and listings for it, while it seemed someone similar to the RC mount, it indicated it did not fit the diesel. Unsure why, I figured I'd just get the RC kit, try and combine it with this aftermarket bumper, and see how it went.

Happy to report, the RC kit mounted up and was fairly easy to install with very minimal modifications. The only 'significant' thing I had to do, was drill an extra hole in the mounting bracket of the new bumper so that the two side brackets that bolt to the driver and passenger side frame rales could be fully bolted up. No drilling of truck frame required. Second trim was also required along inside of the bumper slightly where the winches clutch lever sits, but again very minimal.

Went with the 13.5k X-Bull XRS.

Really happy with it so far and seems like a solid winch for the price. Looked at the Apex, Warn, and bunch of other options listed and all good options, but this ones features and little bit smaller dimensions then the Apex won out. It took a little bit of wiggling and careful maneuvering to get it into place, but fit great once locked in and nothings rubbing interfering with other parts. I did try using the control box mounting bracket that came with the RC kit and wasn't happy with how the box seemed a bit to exposed for my comfort still. So, I ended up fabricating and 3D printing and alternate mounting plate that holds the control box nice and high up along the back of the Winch plate.

Man, I like that bumper 😃
Like the grill too 😎

Okay, got the winch, got the hidden mount. Now, I need wire suggestions and maybe a high idle for the gasser. Not switching out alternator and probably won't run extra battery. Thanks in advance 😉

Recently installed the Ford Performance kit with the warn winch. Did the install myself and took about a day taking my time. Ford did a good job integrating into the stock bumper. I have 2025 tremor 7.3 and the kit came with the wireless remote and synthetic rope. I was surprised to find it that the wireless receiver is not permanent install. Looking at adding the warn hub receiver although the manual control is easy to use. Added the ford front license plate bracket and it fit perfectly with access to the winch. Used the factor 44 flatlink E in place of the hook which sits flush on the fair lead. Highly recommend.

Does anyone have experience running this bracket with a Warn ZEON? I know it'll need a solenoid relocation, curious about fitment otherwise.

The biggest issue with running winches other than RC in their mount is the freespool handle articulation. We have had customers run the Warn winches in our brackets with no issues because the freespool handle is accessible through the fairlead opening.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently installing a winch using the Rough Country hidden winch mount on my 2025 F-250 Tremor with the 6.7 HO diesel.

I didn’t need to trim the top of the mounting plate, as there was approximately 0.20" (5 mm) of clearance. However, after installing the winch and tightening the mounting plate, the upper part of the winch almost touches the formed sections along the bottom of the cooler.

I also noticed that when reinstalling the bumper, a bumper bracket bolt on the left side (looking at the truck from the front) hits the edge of the winch plate. Shifting the plate slightly toward the driver’s side might solve that issue.

I’m considering drilling new winch mounting holes to lower the winch approximately 0.16" (4 mm) and gain some clearance.

Has anyone encountered these issues, particularly on a 2023–2025 diesel? How did you resolve them, and how much clearance do you have between the winch and the cooler?

Thanks!

Check out my posts in the thread, starting there. I encountered some of what you did and shared my modifications.
