Plastic tailgate top

Kinda wish it was the whole top plate plus the step section. Mine is beat up across the whole top edge from a set of loading ramps.

Make it flat black (or semi flat) and textured with flat black bolts and I would be in on this too. Titanium would be preferred, but not required. ;)
 
The only way you're going to texture this is with a rough style media blasting before powder coating, or by a bed liner material afterwards. To get the texture machined into the metal would be cost prohibitive to not only make, but also sell.

It's not going to be that visible anyways, especially if you have a tonneau cover.

I would likely use a grit paint or bed liner paint = done. My bed cover unfortunately does not cover it. I guess another option would be to electroplate it chrome and be hella pimpin' on 35s!
 
I want to follow this and see where it goes! Even at $100 seems like a deal with the flat & black screws.

I would be curious to know the strength of this especially in our Arizona's summers but you're heading in the right direction.

That plate just blasted with black paint does not fit well, quite frankly.

I would pay another $50-80 with a matching and durable finish.

If it's as good as 3M 2080, which is on my tailgate 'faux handle' it has handled the TX heat nicely.
 
I was going to try to buy only the tailgate part of the ford ramp system. I think the piping part would deflect items/material over the edge of the tailgate step

I am looking at something like this. I don't have the step so it would be perfect, if it fits right 🤷
 
from day 1 this has been an issue for me 90K for a truck and they use plastic on a tailgate what a smart idea. If I didn't have a bad back & knee the step would be gone.
