HOT! Ford Diesel Locking Fuel and DEF Caps

I received this message from BEM Auto on 2/14 regarding their fuel and DEF caps (for MY 2022):

"Thanks for getting in touch. We are in process, but do not have anything finished yet. I will keep you on a list to contact when we’re done with development and production."

At this moment the DEF cap is most likely going to be the first off the drawing board and in production, since it is a smaller design constraint (harder to make), plus it is something that isn't currently available from others.

When the Fuel cap is made with a similar design as the DEF cap, there would be an option to specify your key code so that they're keyed alike if you already bought a DEF cap.

Depending on the cost, I'd also like to get the DEF caps blue anodized.

Are you looking a a flat regular type key? Or some bulkier style? I’m still wanting to work on my locking fuel door setup, just haven’t had time yet

Whatever will fit within the constraints of the DEF filler neck. Most likely a miniature tubular key.

Waiting on a new 3D printer to show up in a couple weeks (comes from the Czech republic) to get the design right before any aluminum gets turned.

Ideally I'd like both Fuel + DEF caps sold together at the same time because it will be a hassle to try and stock various key cylinders and keys if the Fuel caps come out at a later date.

Thinking about it being a set with four keys. Avoids the hassle of people coming back later asking for more keys, one for their wife, dog, etc.

Actually I bet I’d never seen it. Likely on the top of tank if there is one. I may know of a video - I’ll check.

I have a dual camera endoscope as well. In the S&B tank install manual, they showed a picture of a smaller vent hose, but unsure of its venting priority compared to the cap, and also unsure if a vent hose is on the DEF tank as well.

I wish we could rig up a door lock actuator and just make the fuel door lock with the rest of the doors, even if a new fuel bay/door needed to be fabricated. I do like the concepts on here, just hate carrying keys!

Mercedes has this concept employed. If the car doors are locked so is it fuel filler door. My issue is that then the degenerates would f’up your paint and potentially Sheetmetal prying it open over $200 worth of fuel so I prefer a locking cap.

That was the video I watched. It almost looked like two additional vents on the top of the tank, though. Not sure if they were, as I re-watched the video and it was unclear if those were vents or hose fittings.

How small is the key though, will it lay flat against other keys on a key ring? I like this design, but in favor of a flat key for that reason.

I doubt it. I think it's fairly small though, but haven't received my sample lock yet for prototyping.

The diesel tank DOES have a separate vent hose that is not within the filler neck. I know this because I installed an S&B tank myself. I cannot speak for the DEF tank, though.
