Sample lock cylinder should be here by Monday. Printer hasn't shipped yet.

I have a new computer on order too that hopefully won't choke on Fusion CAD modeling as much. Should have that around the 18th this month.

Sample lock came early. Looks pretty robust and is elegantly machined. Key's plastic gripper is bulkier than I'd like, but maybe they have different options; if not, oh well I guess. It is held in with a pin, so I'm sure something could be machined after the fact (but adding to complexity and further costs).

Haven't been following this. Is that beautiful example of industrial design for the DEF? The large plastic key thingie is a plus IMHO. It will live in the driver door latch mini-bin with other frequently used keys so it will stand out.

I'm wanting to get some press fit, small knurled thumb turns made to replace the plastic bit so I can keep it on my keyring, since the same key will also open the future Fuel cap (two lock cylinders keyed alike).

New CAD computer is set up and 3D printer has arrived, so prototyping has commenced. Hopefully I can nail it in less than three orders to McMaster

Made some good 1st day prototyping progress that is tangible. First McMaster order is in for some Buna O-rings to see what fits the best.

Thank you! Knurling was mentioned earlier in this thread. Didn't translate well into plastic and would wear down in a pocket for prototyping.

I'm 'probably' going to make the grip area longer so that the key is about the same overall length as a KW1 Kwikset.

O-rings should be here tomorrow. Hoping the soft durometer gives a nice preload feeling when the locking cap fully seats and seals against the neck.

O-rings came early today, so order #2 to McMaster is now in for springs
