HOT! Ford Diesel Locking Fuel and DEF Caps

I tried the o-ring removal and still had vacuum release when removing the Def cap. Reinstalled the o-ring and drilled the cap…no more vacuum.

I don't think the DEF guage is accurate enough to use as an indicator of decreased tank capacity - it's easy enough to stick your head under the bed and take a look at the tank - it's right behind the fuel tank.

I drilled mine today, hadn’t had any problems but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I have the original first edition. It had the holes for the zip tie but no other hole and was air tight . Future problems solved . If I have issues I’ll just put my BEM caps back on .

Anyone know what size the rubber gasket is that’s used on the DEF locking cap?

Mine snapped and doesn’t feel like the cap is too secure without it now

Gas? Tank Warden is only for diesel vehicles.

As for the CEL, pull codes - likely not related to fuel system

Did you install the Tank Wardens recently?

If you don't have a code reader handy, it's easy enough to slowly back the fuel cap off and listen closely for a hissing sound. I know the vents on some of the Tank Warden DEF caps needed to be drilled due to extra material from the printing process clogging them. I'd imagine it's possible for the fuel cap to have the same issue.

I have one of the first batches with the black plastic and no vent tube within the zip tie hole (I checked with a fine wire and it was completely smooth). I haven’t noticed any vacuum or air hissing but decided to drill an opening anyways. Slightly annoyed because it’s a bit off center

I recently did the same thing for the same reason. Ran 10ks of miles without issues or even vacuum sounds when removing the cap. Still, I saw the thread and drilled a hole. Off center. Ugh.

Autozone has a free code reader, also what does the ford pass app say?
