7.3 Godzilla reliability

Ford makes dozens if not hundreds of changes to superdutys over a model year. Job 2 will be a big batch of coordinated changes but weekly there are mostly transparent changes to parts. Most are not announced and would only be known by engineers and suppliers. The only sure way for 99.99%of us to know without ford telling us is looking for part changes that are not compatible with previous model years. Changing of a part number does not necessarily mean the part had a change, the compatibility is the indicator.
Nice to see an intelligent response and a voice of reason...100% my friend. Thanks for posting!

This is exactly the reason I ordered the 7.3 and getting out of my diesel. Good video! I was told by a Ford tech that the oil pressure at idle is now at around 20 versus the 8 he mentioned in the video. Once I get my Banks gauges installed, it will be interesting to see what it runs at.

Great, now I want an oil pressure gauge
If you want to see far more than OP, get a Banks iDash Pro with a custom mount. They are awesome! Otherwise, just get an OP gauge and call it a day.

I actually have an HP tuners NGauge, I wonder if it shows oil pressure.

Yea I get that, but this video presented it like a major engine renew, like second generation 7.3. These kind of changes are usually announced, not leaked. Point is internet gossip sources need to be taken with a healthy grain of salt. 🙄

I disagree as it appears to focus on minor part changes to enhance oil flow, etc. to address the issues everyone is already aware of. We can all agree to disagree on this one. Was the video an embellishment? Absolutely! However, we can all agree on the fact that most everything posted online should be taken with a grain of salt ;)

Makes me want an iDash as well. Since I’m in a ‘21 that’s never had any updates other than Sync 3, I’d really be interested in monitoring various engine conditions a little more closely as the truck ages.

I don’t have any illusions that my engine or transmission for that matter will last beyond 150k miles. Honestly I’d be pleased if I got that much out of the system. And if the truck is in decent condition at that stage, I fully intend to renew the entire drivetrain and keep on truck’n as we used to say in the seventies.

With a little more research, I’m even considering buying one of those detuned 7.3/6speed take off packages from the electric vehicle conversion companies as a future replacement power system for the truck down the road. In the meantime I could just drive my Tremor without a worry and if I never need the engine for this truck, it would make a great power system for an OBS Ford restoration conversion project. 🤩

Your welcome. The only way I have that knowledge is working 11 years at Ford’s former Atlanta assembly plant.

Btw my 2024 7.3 has 30000 miles on it and runs like a top.

I'm planning on a 'zilla swap for my gen 5 Bronco. It's pretty cool to see all the different platforms people are stuffing 7.3s into. If I had more room, I'd grab a fox body to swap, too

I also Have the 7.3 , and usually when Idling waiting for the child to finish class or wife finish shopping and I'm jamming out to some old tunes in the truck :sneaky: . I have the generator button on my favorites tab on the screen so I click that and turn on the generator, kicks the RPM up to 950 or so from the 600 +/-, so high idle ish. I don't know if it actually helps but in my mind I feel better thinking I have more oil flow , Its a simple routine I follow that is almost second nature anytime I sit more that a few mins. Makes me "THINK " I'm doing my part to help reliability...

What options was your truck built with that may add this feature?

We've had a discussion about gas-engine Ford pickups and a bump in engine idle speed when switching on an accessory load such as a winch.
My '16 5.0 F150 does it. That truck has a single battery and a single 200 amp alternator.

My '25 XLT SD Tremor with it's 7.3 Godzilla has dual alts and dual batts but no perceivable bump in idle speed when testing the winch earlier this week.

2K ( 2000 Watt ) pro power on board. It turns on the inverter under the rear seat I believe and runs the engine a little higher to get the alternators up and going is what I've been told.

I haven’t done it yet but a high idle control is easily added to the Super Duty and tied into an upfitter switch. It’s been discussed in detail in previous treads. I think you can do it with a few standard electric components available on Amazon.

Well, somewhere on here someone noted from a Ford technical explanation that the transmission naming convention follows (# of gears)R(Max Input Torque Rating in 10's of Ft LBS)... so 10R100 = 10 speed with 100x10 (ie. 1000) ftlbs input torque rating. So it should do just fine w/ the Godzilla putting out less than half of that.

Also worth noting, the gear ratios are slightly different and usually Ford also updates the programming of their "-G" transmissions to work better with the power band/delivery of the gasser.
I’m talking about if I add a whipple, not a stock truck.

A little puzzled by this question. Based on your profile banner, I assume your truck is a 2022 with Tremor package? If that's the case your truck has the 10R140 transmission in it.

If what you are saying is you are getting a new 2026 Tremor, it also will come equipped with the 7.3L/10R140 combination. See the highlights from the 2026 order guide below.

I haven’t updated my profile. This is a 26 model year truck. I buy a lot of trucks. Hard to even keep up.

Can you not display OP on your Banks? I see the RPM but would definitely configure the Banks to display real-time OP too.
