7.3 Godzilla reliability

I believe that it is 1000 newton meters not FTlbs.
Somewhere on here or another forum it was clarified to by ft Lbs by someone with technical info from Ford... which makes sense as otherwise our HO powerstroke bretheren would be puking their guts out as 1400Nm = 1032 ft LBS (and even the SO would be marginal).

Either way, a 10R100 will take anything a Godzilla will throw at it (at least until you start changing major internal components... stock pistons/rods are marginal at anything much over ~600hp per Brian Wolfe).

I have never seen anything saying the 7.3 has trouble over 600 hp

While I do agree the internals are not all out race approved. I belive in the application we are running at we will be fine. However yes it you want a drag truck build away to your heart's content.

I just remember ford always rated their Trans in Newton meters. Also while these diesels are torque monsters the torque is not forced fed like the old days. The torque management and teaction control really helps you save parts.

It was in reference to adding a whipple or a procharger. I’m far from concerned about it in stock format.

In 26 they dropped to the 10R100. I guess worst case I detonate a trans if it can’t handle it. Won’t be the first time.

I have heard that, but I was speaking about the motor. That's a bummer they dropped the tranny down.

What's mine have? 10R180?

Can you not display OP on your Banks? I see the RPM but would definitely configure the Banks to display real-time OP too.
Unfortunately no, no option in banks for OP. From what I heard its only a dummy switch with ford , has oil pressure or it doesn't. That's why there is no numeric # on the dash when you select that as a gauge. I think I can add a banks probe that would Give me that info I believe, so might be something I need to do !

This would go directly into banks IDash by the looks of it?

Interesting that Ford would only put an "idiot" switch in for that function and not provide real time data on pressure. The gauge has to measure something if it's a "gauge" and not just the old fashioned idiot light so something doesn't sound right.

Got this from google AI LOL
The Ford F-350 with the 7.3L Godzilla engine does have an oil pressure gauge on the instrument cluster, but it is a "dummy" gauge (or switch-based gauge) rather than a true live-reading instrument.

How the Factory Gauge Works
  • On/Off Functionality: The gauge is connected to a pressure switch, not a transducer. It effectively acts as a binary indicator: if pressure is above a minimum threshold (typically around 5–8 PSI), the needle moves to a "normal" middle position and stays there regardless of actual fluctuations.

Welcome to Ford...been this way for decades

On a serious note, someone (ZooDad maybe) recently mentioned the oil pressure data was there and available to view with an iDash or similar, which we know to be true on the 6.7, but they never confirmed whether it was also available on the 7.3. The "gauge" on the dash is effectively an idiot light.

I have checked a few times on the IDash, but doesn't seem to be an option under the current selection for Ford gas? If someone knows how please share....

Interesting and thanks for sharing. May look into that Banks OP sensor to the into my Dash Pro. Does anyone know where that OP switch in the engine block is located and ease of access?

Would match my boost gauge!
Appears to be a PITA to get to and change out:

7.3L "Godzilla" V8 Gas (2020–2026+)
On the modern gas engine, the sensor is located at the rear of the engine block, specifically on the "china wall" (the flat area of the block where it meets the transmission bell housing).
  • Specific Spot: It is typically on the passenger side rear.
  • Accessibility: It is notoriously difficult to see or reach because the intake manifoldcovers most of that area. You may need to reach behind the intake or remove it for full access.

I bet the giant 3 liter Whipple sitting on top probably doesn't make it easier!

On/Off*?

lmao!

*engine when not idling has the throttle slammed open and stays wide open

I have a Whipple on mine, and I debated adding an oil pressure sender on the spot where the oil pressure switch is now. Someone makes an adapter where you can add the sender there, and also have the OEM switch there too. I elected to forgo that as I already have an oil pressure set up that goes on the oil filter housing. It's called an oil filter sandwich, and it was easy to install and can get to the sender easily if it fails. The oil filter screws onto the sandwich. My 2024 shows 18 psi at idle when the oil is 195 degrees.

I had the sandwich setup on my STI back in the day, it worked well. Plenty of room under there on the Superduty too!
