37 inch spare fits in spare location on 23+

Can confirm, 37 RT does not fit. Won’t pass the edges of the hitch and hits the exhaust. Messed with it for an hour and no go.

Did you try moving it inward towards the rear axle? I get that it rubs the exhaust, mine does too, but the first photo problem is solved by moving it toward the pumpkin, at least that ls how i resolved mine.

Yeah, moved it back as far as it would go. May mess with it again or lower psi sometime. Has 50 psi in it. Have not looked up the diameter differences in the RT vs yours if there are any. Just seems like I needed another 3/8 to 1/2” to clear. Hopefully one of the other guys with same wheel/tire combo will get bored enough to try.

Might also wait until my 6k tire rotation and attempt one of the worn ones there. Have maybe ~2500 miles on them now, but plan to rotate in the spare.

According to toyo they are near identical in diameter. And Toyo, unlike some others, typically stays true to their measurements.

Maybe the fact that i’m on oem tremor rim has something to do with it. My width is closer to 12 than 12.50. Maybe something else plays a role, hard to say without putting my wheel next to yours and measuring them precisely.

As someone said above, if all else fails, even at3 37 spare is better than some other 35.

For sure. I also don’t mind having my 5th matching spare in the bed and the factory 35 under as a last resort should I have 2 tire losses. I just think the Carli Trophy hitch is overpriced. Surprised nobody has made another. Maybe they have and I haven’t seen it.

I am done. Triple checked everything, the tire is seated on all 4 pads, extra exhaust heat shielding added. Now on to the real test, driving around checking that everything functions proper. Worst case i’ll burn through my spare tire during regens, but i doubt that will happen.

When i first mounted my 37s, i did a similar test, checked weekly to make sure the tire is not rubbing on my sway bar on full turns, 9 months later everything is still fine, no rub.
Maybe I should have mentioned this sooner, I have a 5 inch Banks and it is only 1/4 inch from the spare, all is good.

I am not opposed to running my spare in the bed when needed either. I am still rocking the OEM 35" spare underneath and have no plans to remove it should the 37" not fit. I also plan to move to 38" Toyo MT's next set of tires so a 37" will once again be undersized. Plugs, patches and the compressor will take care of most issues without the need for a spare.

Amen! Nobody i know has said , yes their hitch is worth the 4k price tag they are charging for it. Pretty much every one says, fuck it’s expensive but i have no other choice, they own the market and the price tag.

Up until yesterday i had my duratrac spare under and my 37 5th tire lived under the diamondback in the bed. Come friday i will get another at3 37 used spare that will permanently go under and my 5th tire will again spend most of the time in the bed, especially during winters for my daily commute; i need that extra weight, try to keep 500-600lbs in the bed all the time, best way to level our trucks:-)

Well, after a camping trip to PA and two regens later i can say that the heat shielding works and have nothing to worry about. I went out to check the shielding immediately after my full regen completed and it was warm, not hot, while everything else around was still hot and smelly, so that's that.

I also picked up another used toyo at3 37” at a very fair price which will actually be my full time spare underneath, not my 5th rotational tire which i consider a part of my set that’s been under now. At times, i’ll likely grab them both on some long trips, or keep both in the winter for that extra weight in the bed when i’m daily driving.

Now i need more oem rims for my additional spare considerations:)

The good thing about this new spare is that it has about 50% of the tread left, which should make fitting it under simpler than my current 85% tread tire from the set. And perhaps when my own set gets closer to 50%, i can throw this one into rotation as well for a 6 tire rotation.

Great! Glad to hear it worked out for you!!

Update: 3 regens and two camping trips later, everything is fine. The tire is touching the exhaust at one spot but the padding is doing its job, the heat doesn’t transfer to the tire tread.

Next week I’m installing the 6th spare i bought which has less tread than my other 5 so it should fit better and will permanently live in the carrier.

Have you discussed the new digs with spare #6 to make sure it approves!!

Is there reason to believe that the 23+ is different than the 22-?
When Ford added corner steps on the rear bumpers on MY23+ they changed the brackets that mount the bumper to the hitch and frame. MY22 and under have two separate four hole angle brackets that tie the frame bumper bracket to the hitch. MY23+ got rid of the separate angle brackets and have a single bracket that connects everything together frame, hitch and bumper. The combined bracket uses a single much larger bolt to connect the hitch instead of the two sets of two smaller bolts on MY22s and under. The holes are still there on a MY23+ hitch that you can attach the earlier angle brackets as that is what I had to use when I installed my CU rear bumper. Another difference is there are additional mounting holes on the sides of the hitch on a MY23 that are for two smaller diagonal brackets to prevent twisting of the bumper from the corner steps.

This should be my last post on this topic unless i run into an issue during long term testing and will need to update the thread for everyone.

Yesterday i mounted my 6th tire, with a used 50% AT3 aka my permanent spare, not a rotational 5th spare. I don’t take shortcuts, so i road force speed balanced that tire as well for a piece of mind.

I noticed it took more balancing weights than my new ones did, probably being used on a different wider 9” wheel, it needed more weights to be rebalanced on this oem 8” rim.

As you can see in a level photo i definitely gained about 1/4-5/8 of an inch in diamter compared to my newer tires with 85% tread which i can confirm resulted in a looser fit - it was MUCH easier to get into a carrier and fit on the pads now.

I also painted the exhaust shield with 2000 degree rustoleum ceramic flat black, so that aluminum shield doesn’t stand out.

Now, @Florida Ford Guy recommended a product i did not know existed. A motorcycle heat shield. It withstands 1350 degrees of heat!!! and dissipates heat better than anything else i found. After some consideration I decided not to get it given that i already finished my insulation and with aluminum and my silicone sheet i tested it and feel that it is perfectly safe already. But if i was to do it again, with the knowledge about this product, i would go this route instead. Specifically this DEI one, seems like the most trusted shield on the market that i could find.

So this is it, everything fit perfectly and easier this time, i feel like i have maybe 1/16 of an inch between the wheel and exhaust; remove all padding and shielding and they definitely would not touch.

Photos show the final product that will permanently live in the carrier.

Awesome, thank you for your research and time to post. I am going to give this a try, 2024 6.7 250. Tires on order (they say about a week). I've also ordered one of the Titanium heat shields - would you still use the silicone pad, or maybe two of the heat shields, or do you think putting the one on order around the exhaust pipe will be adequate?

Are you grabbing these spares randomly online or do you have specfic source?

I need to grab me a 5th matching spare and have been truly avoiding going new in an effort to avoid having to implement it into the rotating set all the time. That would drive me nuts.

I've also ordered one of the Titanium heat shields - would you still use the silicone pad,

Yes, i still trust that silicone is whats truly keeping the heat from the tire, in the spot where it is touching about an inch i would even double up, thinking of doing that actually.

I bought 5 new ones together, with a 5 tire rotation sequence in mind.

This 6th one is from facebook marketplace, bought it $100 once i saw its condition and knew the precise use case i have for it, it was a no brainer.

Does anyone know if the spare tire mount will work with a fuel wheel to get mounted under for a spare tire?

Any rim should work it’s the diameter of the tire thats important and is the limiting factor in most cases.
