37 inch spare fits in spare location on 23+

Yeah, I think in a situation like this you just want to avoid thermal loading at any one point. The aluminum shielding you ordered will do a couple things - diffuse and absorb. Both of these will act to spread the thermal load out and not concentrate in any one location on the tire.
 
For those asking about a 37” fitting under a 22MY. I deflated my Toyo ATIII and Falkens to basically as low as it would go. It would not fit no matter how I tried to squeeze it. I can’t speak to other brands of tires, but these did not fit for me
 
This has my wheels spinning now for my 2020. Anyone know if there was any major changes under there that would make this different from the 2020 tremor?

I have 37x12.50r20 Toyo ATIII on my truck and would love to have a spare under there, even if it's an 18 inch spare with a street tread instead of the "off road" tread
 
i don't ever remember seeing those "pads" at least on my 2020, haven't looked at the '24 yet

Concurring about 22. I tried 37 nitto ridge grapplers first than falken at3w to no avail.

I’ve been preachin toyo at3 since the day i mounted them on my 23, not only do 37/12.5 fully clear 23+ factory tremor suspension mounted on oem rims, but they also ride like a sports tire they handle so well weighting at only 71lbs. And now i’m almost done with a spare fitment. This, imo, is the best tire choice stepping up to 37 while still staying close to oem as possible.

@Alpoba did you measure the actual diameter of the 37" Nittos, Falkens, and Toyos?

Curious if there is a difference between tires that may account for the spare fit/no-fit condition vs. 22/23 MY changes?

Or maybe it's both?
 
@Tex_Hunter the good news is i’m 100% seated on all 4 pads. It took a bit of play with my dad assisting me to tighten it while i was positioning the tire, but it’s done.

So the only issue to deal with is the exhaust. I’m going to order this heat shield (it’s similar to the one @Modman showed above) and maybe some silicone too for extra padding. I hope my tire don’t melt during regens!:)

Use a 24" 3/8 extension on a impact drill to lower your spare, much quicker and you don't need your trucks oem tools. 3/8 fits perfect.

I’m a bit nervous when it comes to impacts. I do all ratcheting slowly by hand even on my tire rotations. Takes me 1/2 a day though😀

At this point i don’t recall anymore. I might have measured at the time. The one thing to note is that the manufacturer always tells you what size rim they measured at, so when they say it’s 36.5 on a 10.0” rim, it’s only the measurement on 10.0”. On OEM 8.0” rim that diameter measurement might be smaller. <- and this might be the reason why i’m able to fit this while others on aftermarket (9.0-10.0”) wheels might not fit.

I'm talking about this type of impact, go as slow or fast as you want. No chance of doing anything bad.

i always thought the wider the rim, the less height the tire will have because the sidewalls get pulled wider thus lowering the height. the narrower the wheel, the taller the tire becomes. No? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can’t find any reliable info on rim’s width effect on tire height. So perhaps my statement above is👎 my bad. I was likely thinking of rim’s width and it’s effect on tire width, that does matter.

I have Toyo RT 37s on 18x9 Method 707, 2024 Tremor. I have the 5th Method mounted on same 37 RT, but I just keep it strapped down in the bed under my Backflip with the factory spare under the truck. This has peaked my curiosity and I will try to get to it this week and see if it fits in the spare location. Will report back if it miraculously does fit.

I inserted small a piece of aluminum in between the shield and exhaust where the tire touches it (first photo) and then covered it up with another big piece of aluminum, then used two stainless zip ties to hold it together and then covered it with aluminum foil tape. Together with a piece of silicone over a tire i think my spare will have enough heat resistance.

i’m debating whether i want to spray this heat seal with some high heat rustoleum. If not, i’ll just mount the spare and be done with it. And maybe paint at a later point.

That was a good tip from you! it’s not obvious that the tire might not be seated fully until you reach with your hand to feel those pads one by one. At several tries i cleared one only to find that another was about an inch off. After a while i cleared all 4. The room is fairly easy to create by pushing the tire towards the cab but then it hits an exhaust at some point, so it’s a delicate balance.

@Lunch Box you were right about the shield. I drove for about an hour today then checked the exhaust right after i got out; it’s very hot to touch everywhere else but on the shield it’s only barely warm. With that additional padding i ordered i’ll feel confident that heat won’t be the issue.
Thinking about this some more, I almost wonder if it'd be possible to just install a spacer on those pads so that the tire would cinch up fine without having to squeeze between the tightest portions of the hitch and just hang down a little lower. The Carli hitch already decreases your departure angle by a bit, and wondering if this would end up being any worse at the end of the day.

Yep, that was exactly my thought a few days ago in case i was unsuccessful in fitting the spare on the existing 4 pads. It worked for me, but that would be one way to solve the problem if it didn’t. Ok, so your 37 spare would sit an inch lower than oem one. No biggie for me.

I am running the same setup, so I am definitely interested in your results.
 
I am done. Triple checked everything, the tire is seated on all 4 pads, extra exhaust heat shielding added. Now on to the real test, driving around checking that everything functions proper. Worst case i’ll burn through my spare tire during regens, but i doubt that will happen.

When i first mounted my 37s, i did a similar test, checked weekly to make sure the tire is not rubbing on my sway bar on full turns, 9 months later everything is still fine, no rub.
