2022 Sync 4 software update with full screen carplay/android auto

I have the same issue updating the GWM. Same error.

Latest FDRS, Mongoose cable. The BCM, wireless charge module, and HVAC modules all updated without issue.

One thing I see is that FDRS says:
FDRS has detected an issue with the VCI software package installed on this PC. This may be because the version installed is out of date. Go to the following link to download....

When you click on the link, and click on the VCI update, there's no page there.

Link is
https://www.fordtechservice.dealerc...ds/diagnosticsites/vcmdvd/mcs/idssoftware.asp

When you choose the VCI one, there's no page found.

If I use the j2534 toolbox, it says the driver is up to date.

Well, guess I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money on the mongoose cable

Try clicking this link https://www.motorcraftservice.com/diagnostic/Support?channelId=50&categoryId=276. After selecting your country and language, it will say that the page can't be found. Navigate back to the link a 2nd time and it'll work and let you download the VCI software.

I have the lastest VCI software and still have the issue, worth a try though 🤷‍♂️

On it. The download worked from your link. Whatever. Headed out to try it...

EDIT: Yeah same thing. Same error.

I wonder if it has something to do with how the updates roll out -- just spitballing here, but if the vehicle VIN isn't in the 'ready to update' list, ie, the OTA update isn't listed for the that VIN YET, then this process wouldn't work either. Maybe when Ford adds the VIN to the list in their rolling update process, then our update will work.

Or not. :)

Did your truck have the deep sleep issue?

I'm hoping this issue isn't related and is another problem related to a particular build date.

Yes. Fixed now with the BCM update.

My truck also needed an HVAC module update, which I ran, but doesn't seem to have fixed the heated seat problem.

For folks having issues with GWM update. Are you queuing up multiple module updates and trying it all in one shot? Or are you going one by one manually. I haven’t played with FDRS yet so please do tell me I’m stupid if this question makes 0 sense.

Rereading the post on F150, it seems that their GWM and other modules are updated via usb drive and not the diag port

I believe as the GWM is being updated, it will instruct you to insert a USB drive that it downloads the file to.

Mine never gets to that point, it pretty much fails immediately.

Nick at infotainment just sent me the files to put on a USB to apply the update. Might try it later today. 🤞

Just concerned that circumventing FDRS will cause issues with receiving future updates (since Ford would not be aware I had updated)

Idk about carplay but playing music over Android auto uses a lot of battery anyways so if I didn't plug in I'd say 8 hours it's dead. Which might just be android jank. It's literally just playing downloaded music, not even using gps.
That's odd. I have a Samsung Galaxy s20FE; I place my phone on the capacitance charger and use it for Nav and streaming music and I have a full charge when I finish my road trip.

After the GWM update via USB, just connect FDRS again and it should report the update to the ford database and unlock the APIM update.

Unfortunately that would require doing a network scan in FDRS and there is a known issue when using a VXDIAG nano adapter that corrupts the as built files when that is done.

Yes thats the one you must install.

Just an FYI, but both the GWM and the APIM require copying files to the USB stick.

Just to document this for posterity.... I ended up getting the module configs from Jesse over on the f150gen14 forum. There are actually 3 modules that get updated -- GWM, APIM and TCM. All of which errored out the same way when I tried doing it through FDRS.

Everything loaded fine and we're off to the races. Also enabled the Unreal engine, I don't care much about climate control stuff on the screen.

For the Android Auto folks out there, not a great story with full screen (at least on mine). AA is the same size it was, but now, there's a 'fullscreen' icon you can press. It makes the right pane (where something useful was) into a clock.

Maybe there's an AA update coming or something.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out.

I likely will just wait for the updates to come OTA. I don't feel like spending $500 on a mongoose cable.

I’m debating the knock off VCMII route:

Have ordered from these guys before and no real issues to speak of.

Yeah, I was researching those clone units as well. Sounds like you have to be careful with which one you get. The "full chip" versions work the best I hear and are pretty much identical to the legit Bosch unit.
