2022 Sync 4 software update with full screen carplay/android auto

No I didn’t. When my buddy drops by with his f150 I’m gonna play with his and see how the whole thing actually works
Gonna quote myself here, my buddies F150 acts the same so I guess I’m gonna have to head out to my parents and connect my trailer and see what happens

I ordered the VXDIAG right from the link in this thread: https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/ecu-module-programming-guide-using-fdrs.8249/

I have successfully updated my system and the full screen CarPlay is great. I havent enabled the Unreal engine quite yet as I loaned out my Forscan module to someone and cant remember who. I will see if my son has his tomorrow or I might have to order a new one.
Is it pretty self explanatory? Meaning how easily can I brick the whole truck?

I’ve purchased stuff like this from obdexpress in the past without issue. I don’t have an FDRS setup yet, but do have ISTA+ and an ICOM for my bikes.

I have a dumb question. I have latest version of forscan loaded on my laptop and the cable to connect. I haven’t tried yet, bc I don’t wanna brick my truck. I have the notice of getting a power up date that mentions The Alexa upgrade but didn’t get the notification of the next update. My trucks connected thru wifi to our home and is set for automatic updates. Does this need to be done at the dealer to get the updated screen?

Yes and no. The instructions are fairly straight forward, but you must follow them to a T. The problem is that post is over 500 pages long. At some point FDRS asks you to install a new driver and the instructions don’t mention that until later in that post. Once I found that I was supposed to install that it went ok. There is also an important link in the instructions that you must follow as you don’t want it to scan for you, instead you want to put in your VIN if using the VXDIAG. Once you click on each module it’s really step by step and simple. The downloads took longer than I wanted but its an older laptop and not the highest speed over Wi-Fi from the garage.

You’ll eventually get the APIM update since you have the GWM update. When I don’t know unfortunately.

Can you use the OBDLink used for forscan to do this or do you have to use the mongoose or vxdiag?
No you will need one of the 2 cables mentioned. If you buy the mongoose you can sell your OBDlinkEX it won’t be needed anymore. When money allows, I’ll buy a mongoose and just put my OBDlink on the shelf

So once you get it all pulled up FDRS will tell you what needs updated? And the. You just click download? Out of curiosity how much stuff was out of date ?

Some modules may not show as needing updated until another module is updated. Here’s the list of updates I had: APIM,TCU, PCM, WACM, TMC and HVAC

Oh interesting. Does FDRS replace ForScan as well? Or do they serve different purposes?

Also, for the record, I hate this thread as it's making me far too tempted to spend $600 on a damn cable.

So If I brought my truck into the dealership they'd be able to update everything and get the new features instead of waiting for the OTA BS to happen?

Different purposes IMO forscan is much faster to log into and make changes.

FDRS will let you update modules here’s what sucks and this is a heads up for anyone using FDRS, it will wipe out your forscan changes so any module you’ve made changes to make sure you save a copy of that module first!!!! You’ve been warned!

Makes sense. And Forscan is a heck of a lot less expensive on an ongoing basis lol.

Is it safe to overwrite the newly updated module with old as-built data? Or should you recreate your changes?

I know my gut instinct would be to recreate things at risk of undoing some updated bits.

Related, does that mean when a dealer does updates for us (knowingly or not) our Forscan changes will be wiped out?

I updated and instantly wrote my APIM AB back to the module, no issues that I’ve seen yet.

Yes If you go to your dealer for a recall and it involves a module update(I forgot the BCM was a module that was in my update list), it will wipe your forscan changes

Ok guys if youve kept up with me, I like to tinker a lot. I swapped in a 21 F150 APIM to get this mod, then found out there was a software update for the SD APIM. I borrowed a cable from someone and did the software update via FDRS. I wont be covering the FDRS update how to. theres a much better thread than I can write on F150gen14

heres my current version before the updateView attachment 107917

after the update

heres the what the new software looks like and also it has amazon alexa enabled.

What's unreal engine???

What's unreal engine???

I had the same question first time I heard about it. Scroll down to post 38

Given my experience with dealers, I would highly doubt this. Both mine and my sons truck took over 2 hours each. I just cant see a dealer paying a tech to babysit this process without significant compensation for this. Heck I cant even get a proper oil change around here without a hassle or weeks of waiting.
