What have you 3D printed?

I haven't printed anything for the truck yet but print often with my Ender 3 Pro. I have a K2 on order that should be here sometime next month, fingers crossed. In the spirit of Halloween, printed this pumpkin earlier in the week. It might be a good hitch addition to give a little bump cushion.

Printables.com and Thingiverse.com are great online resources for free STL files for this thinking about getting started. Most everyday things are likely already modeled and available.

excellent sites.

Grabcad.com is one I search in addition to the two Wildcat mentioned.

i designed and printed a third brake light/chase light that houses 4 Diode Dynamics C1R pods. plan is to go billet aluminum for final product but the print is doing well. i Acetone vapor polished, sanded, and sealed it. Plus its printed from ASA.

the C1R pods have 3 functions, a low power red backlight, and high power red backlight, and a high power main beam(white). so i have the low power backlight wired to running lights, the high power to brake lights. the 3 outer lights i swapped to amber lenses and the high power main beam is wired to my garmin power switch as chase lights. the inner 2 pods are white lenses and are also wired to the garmin to use as additional reverse/bed lighting.

This looks really good. If you ever make any of this public (file or part) please let me know. The aftermarket price for stuff like this is insane so if you can come in lower, i bet you'd have some takers.

I'm working on a billet part right now. You probably know this but... xometry is your friend in terms of getting a rough ballpark for costs.

Oh yea, I’m very familiar with xometry and protolabs and parts badger and send cut send. Haha.

I do plan on bringing the light to market. It won’t be cheap. The housing is not a cheap part to machine. And the pods aren’t cheap either. But I designed it cause I’m a diode dynamics fan and I wanted to see something different from the multiple other options on the market that all use Baja designs, and generally all looked the same.

I figured if you're making something like that you knew about those sites but... just making sure.

I know it wont be cheap having priced my parts. Just saying if theres a way for you to make it worth your time and be lower than whats out there currently, you'd be positioned well.

I really like how you made the lights protrude out the back instead of flat like most of the ones i've seen.

Man, this is sharp. Very well done!

I do too. My design didn’t start that way but due to the depth of the pods, making them flush made the housing look massive! So I just made the pods stick out so that the housing doesn’t look so large. It also is just more interesting

question on printing ASA. I tried it for the first time the other day using my X1C. I used bambu filament and their standard settings and i believe my part warped.
From what i read I need to turn down the fans so it doesnt cool as much.

Any tips since you've clearly printed something outta ASA that is very clean?

I've got an old Ender 3 Pro. They are more of a 'tinkerer' machine. Kind of manual and need some babysitting sometimes, but reliable once setup right.
Around $100-125 used on CL or FB.

If you want more of a set and forget 'production' type. My brother is using a new Prusa MK4 and it is stellar. $800
Lots of used Prusa MK3S+ being sold right now. Also an awesome machine. Or just about anything Prusa is good. $400

Top of the line and the one I want is the Bambu Carbon X1 Combo. It just plain print great every single time. It prints multi colors.
But it will cost you. $1500.
It all just depends on how much you want to spend on one.
I bought a Bambu Labs Carbon X1. Pricey but fantastic printer! Very fast.

I printed mine on a P1S.

The key is to up the bed temp, make sure the door is closed, and turn off the aux fans.

i currently run 100C (which is default). Ill try +20.

Thanks

It would be awesome to print one that size that was a disco ball! When people tailgated you it would blind everyone! :ROFLMAO:
Vegas style for sure!

3D print who the hell can afford one of them I just bought a new truck
Lol, I hear you brother. I had my printer before I bought my truck! Want to buy the bambu on sale but I'm more strapped than usual because of the down payment for the Tremor.
Printing and designing things are their own hobby. My printer is only a couple years old now and it was 280 new and looks like 200ish now for the same one. Ender 3 v2. You can get started relatively cheap if you enjoy the CAD and minor tinkering.
The real trick is to convince your boss that it's worth it for the company to get one (it probably is). Now we are making some pieces in house for that we were having machined before for way cheaper. It's kind of fun trying to find uses for the printer. I've made quite a few drill guides / template type things and tradeshow pieces. Seems like people love scale models of your products at shows that they can look at, helps draw people in.

Attached is the scale model of one of our water parks I printed for shows. Took about a year on an ender 5 at work and my ender 3.
