Concerning my Fab Four Matrix bumper install - I had to do some minor modifications. They spec their bumpers for Rigid and Warn. I didn’t want to go with either of them.
I had to cut a small easement (1/4” high by 1” long, angled) out of the winch mounting plate. Sherpa winch is longer on the motor side, and the motor needed just a bit of space. This will not affect the strength of the plate at all, as it was in the front folded up portion and there’s still plenty both below and to the side to keep the strength.
The 30” Onyx6 lightbar needed to be maneuvered to get into position. It is a beast. But the light output compared to the Rigid bar they spec’d it for was almost 3x more light. I wanted this bar. I had to do the same thing in the bumper mounting plates - just cut a small 1x1 section out of the plate. The bumper marries to the mounting plate with 4 bolts. The cuts, again, did not cause any structural issues.
The instructions tell you to mount the fog light housing and lights before putting the bumper on. This was the worst advice. There is zero chance of getting bolts torqued or even tightened, frankly, I couldn’t even put some in, as long as the light housing was in place. I took them off, and could access all mounting bolts and torque them. The light housing then went back on easily while the bumper was on the truck.
All-in-all, I really like this bumper. It does exactly what I wanted it to do. The winch is great, the light output is incredible. As far as Fab Four goes, they made a fantastic bumper. I had no issues, other than the ones I created for myself buy going against the recommended lights/winch. Kudos to them.
