The 701 LR will look similar to this once the Aurora rally tower is installed.

Story timeFor some reason that serves as a delfector, and it made 70 MPH possible in relative comfort (although my mechanical sympathy says NICHT to prolonged periods at that RPM and load.
I was on a road trip on my old Ninja 250 and flogged it pretty hard
I was able to go to the MotoGP race at Laguna back in 05, the first year back in the US since 92. I’ll never forget the buildup of hearing the bikes warming up in the pits before the first lap of FP1. Hearing them get closer as they made their way to the corkscrew, and watching Nicky Hayden lead Colin Edwards, Valentino Rossi, and the rest of the grid into it. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it. I’m kind of a nerd when it comes to GP racing. Nicky went on to secure pole and get his first win in MotoGP and I was there to see it.
Anyway, I’m pretty jealous you got to ride the track. Being from the Midwest, that’s a bucket list track.
I gotta get a pic of my 300L w/ it's rally tower - it's the one from Adventure Men Cave, Portugal.
It has a clear windscreen that attaches to the light stack framework, but at anything from 50 - 70 MPH it puts the wind that was against my chest and puts it square between my eyes. The buffeting was untenable. I run the tower sans windscreen while the two faux Baja Designs' 4-pot LED pods are covered in clear Lexan. For some reason that serves as a delfector, and it made 70 MPH possible in relative comfort (although my mechanical sympathy says NICHT to prolonged periods at that RPM and load. Or would that be my senior citizen physique...).
Only photo I have right now of it w/ the windscreen removed.

With windscreen (as noted earlier, this promotes buffeting to the helmet, so I run without it)

Please overlook the yard. It's green today and the tarped objects are gone.
2 wheel photo dump. I could keep going with pictures. I’ve been more around the US on 2 wheels than 4. I have 2018 Gen 2 Vmax that puts out 230 HP, 2019 Goldwing Tour DCT, and 2021 WR450 that I have tagged for the street.
^ ^ ^ I tried one. It's in the shed now.![]()
I prefer mostly naked bikes, anyway. And again, I got this 300L for putt-ing around on dirt roads and below-gnarly trails. The fact that I can lean forward, open the throttle and cruise at 65 - 70 on this smaller, lighter, less expensive machine is more value than I had hoped.
One day I may graduate to something akin to Max's 450 or your 701!
I rode bigger, faster bikes over half a lifetime ago. I are no stranger to ample power on two wheels. It's just that at my age now, I don't wanna crash fast.

Haha well I can pass most things except a gas station. Both VMAX and WR are terrible on fuel. But, my 7.3 Tremor drinks the most fuel lolHoly smokes - that Vmax is insane, and insanely good lookin for the class of bike it is.
As is that WR! That's wicked nice.
You, sir, are WINNING.![]()

I’m guessing that was the race that Ben Bostrom (the American) won the gold for Supermoto at the X Games. That racing is super fun to watch!Outstanding!
Hey. I gotta question for you. Around 2003 or 2004 I remember seeing an X-Games Supermoto race that wound up being dominated by an American road racer and a European Supermoto champ... they left everyone behind and it wound up being the best motor racing duel I've ever seen, at least in the motorcycling world. It was phenominal racing, and our American rider on the last lap laid it inside our Euro friend to take the lead in an extremely hard-fought but friendly race.
During the cool down lap they must've high-fived each other 22 times! LOL.
Do you recall seeing a race like that? And, I say "Supermoto" but I am now uncertain of the correct description. This was pavement and dirt, part parking lot, etc... relatively small course but the racing was incredible.
my 7.3 Tremor drinks the most fuel lol
