Transfer Flow 58 gallon replacement tanks are finally being sold and installed!!!!

SDHQ is the go to shop in Arizona in my opinion. Very knowledgeable, they all drive huge rigs all kitted out. They did my Carli setup, tank, and other stuff. Have more for them to do as well. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to do it how I would do it (if I knew how)
This was my first time using them. I was very impressed. They did take all day on my gas tank install but I told them they could. Dropped it off at store opening picked it up 30 mins before closing, worked with my work schedule. The store was incredible!!! I ask them how many TF tanks they installed, I was there 2nd. 10k miles later no issues. Very good work, company, and people.

So, I have to ask regarding the Transfer Flow tank and Forscan. I got the tank installed and updated Forscan. I followed the tutorial from the Forscan website, but set it to 58 gallons as the size - not 55. I also updated the fuel source to IPC. The miles to empty setting updated once I wrote the new config to the system. No errors from the computer, all seems fine.

Have others updated the settings to 58 as well or either went with 55 or 60 instead? I have not driven the truck since the change, but recycled the ignition several times. Just wondering ....

I reset mine to 58. I noted that when it was telling me less than 50 miles left, I actually had about 10 or 11 gallons left. So closer to 100 miles left under the circumstances at the time. I may go back and change it. Not sure how much.

Thanks. I will test that out. If necessary I will probably go with the 55 and not 60 to have a bit extra before running out.

I set mine to 58 gallons. The IPC 720-09-01 setting, which I think defaults to 6, indicates the gallons to empty AFTER the miles-to-empty on the dash shows 0. On my last fillup with miles-to-empty showing 35, I put in 50 gallons which calculates correctly. Nice to have that buffer but don't intend on ever pushing it. Can't tell you how I have enjoyed the extended range (except when I have to fill up). Cheers

Thanks. That is good to know. And yeah - it will not be fun when at the gas station.

I followed pretty much the same procedure as you with good results. The DTE always has had a pretty healthy cushion and that remains the same with the 58 gal tank. I am loving the 58 gal tank! I hunt and scout a lot in remote locations. It’s so nice to have so much fuel on board. Plus lots of miles to price shop gas !

Ha, when I start going on longer trips I will calculate out how much gas I need to make it to Arizona or Nevada and then fill her up to the brim.

This explains my experience and I find it accurate to my prior statement. Thanks for the clarification.

I set my tank to 58 in forscan when I got the tank about 6 months ago. Seems fairly accurate. The larger tank has transformed my mindset when towing on longer vacations. No more range anxiety, flexibility to stop at rest stops instead of gas stations every time and less stress to find a gas station with clearance for my fifth wheel. We did have one stressful point in Nevada hill country with a headwind. My MPG plummeted and almost didn't make it to the next "85 miles" to next gas station. Made it into the gas station on 0 miles left in tank so there is some buffer but don't want to test that again.

Exactly my situation. Though my truck is only 7 weeks old, I’ve logged 9,000 miles with a heavy slide in. Depending on speed, I’m seeing 11 to 14 mpg. Then when you get some elevation and/or wind like coming into Colorado from NM, that range you thought you had goes to shit. Looking at the map, small town to the next it got a little stressful looking for fuel as I slid below 50 miles left.

I’m hoping with the big tank, I can fill up when convenient and reduce those pucker moments.

I had Transfer Flow put in my 58 gallon tank a little more than a month ago and have done several fill-ups now. I did Forscan and updated the tank to 58 gal and changed to IPC. When my distance to go says zero, I still have 8 gallons in the tank. This last fill-up yesterday, I went 25 miles past zero miles to go and the amount I was able to put in at the pump was about 52 gallons.
Is there any way to get this a little more accurate? I don't mind it being off by some, this just seems like a lot.
Thanks in advance for any help and input you all may have.

Just got this thing installed this past friday and within the first 100 miles on a fresh tank the truck threw a p0442 code. Almost certain things have shifted since the install but was just curious if anyone else experienced the same or similar code.

I'm not being patronizing, but that code in my experience has always been related to fuel cap not sealing correctly. It's weird it would happen after the tank swap but less weird after a fuel up. Take the cap off clean all around the threads and put it back tight. Clear code if you are able and see if it comes back. Hopefully that's all it is.

Or maybe the clamp for filler tube wasn't seated or tightened fully and created an air leak path after everything jostled around a bit...

No worries, I'll double check when I get home.

I would also check and make sure the fill neck didn't get pulled down during the install, the cap could be bottoming out on the body panel before your getting a seal.

I had a P0496 code three weeks after install. Bad soleniod in the evap valve. But I think mine has been bad for a while and was not due to the transferflow tank. The extra carbon canister on the tank just exaggerated the problem and finally made the check engine light come on.
