Transfer Flow 58 gallon replacement tanks are finally being sold and installed!!!!

4 the truck over by the Toyota dealer in Henderson
On my Powerstroke upper filter, that exact fitting is extremely difficult to get past the retaining 'flare' of the pipe.
Ok. Awesome. Thanks for the reply.. But does it eventually just push in? You didn’t have to pull out the retaining clips or anything?. I only pushed with moderate force until I received some advice. I didn’t want to push too hard and break something if the clip has to be otherwise manipulated to reconnect.

I didn't pull the clip out; if there was a way to without destroying it, I would've done that. I've tried many ways of manipulating it but it's a lost cause.

I had to use alot of force, but it's not the first time I've done it, so I was pretty safe knowing it shouldn't break.

One portion of the clip is supposed to move out of the way when you push it over the flare, but it doesn't, which is why it's hard.

I have a question about fuel line quick disconnects required to install the transfer flow tank. Maybe someone that installed their own can help me?

I had my tank installed last Friday. Yesterday one of the stainless fuel lines came out of the quick connect fitting. I cannot find anything online that shows how the particular disconnect works. The one that failed is one of the two forward most connectors, the black one. These are were the transfer flow stainless fuel lines connect to the trucks existing fitting. I will try to post some photos.

I spoke to the dealer that did the install and they told me that I should be able to just push the line back in. I tried this but it does not work. Line goes in but can be pulled right back out. I wonder if I have to pull out the retainer clips to get the line back in and then push them back in. The fitting is facing up so I can’t see the top of the clips to figure out how they might work. Hopefully someone has done the install and provide some tips on how to make this connection.
To answer my own question….
I called Transfer flow. Spoke the the Tech Support Manager and he spoke to his installer. He said that for this particular fitting you must lift the retaining clip up “to the first click” push the line in, hold it, and drop the clip back down. It took me a few tries and I ended up lifting the clip all the way up and got it to seat and hold. The retaining clip is dual clips that appear to be attached to each other. The company that installed it remained pretty set that the connector is just push-to-connect. This has me wondering if they rammed it in and damaged the retaining clips. They seem kind of loose. On the way to the Ford dealer now to find out if the retaining clips are replaceable and if not how much fuel line needs to be replaced to replace the whole fitting. The last thing I need is for this thing to come apart when in hunting in the desert in AZ or in a 20 below zero blizzard in Montana.

Yup, you still have to lift the clip up, but it's still not easy.

Got mine installed yesterday by the preferred Transfer Flow installer in OKC. $443 and about 6 hours including a thorough inspection process.

Anybody aware of a reputable installer in Southeastern Arizona (Tucson / Sierra Vista area)?

That works..thanks

Wife was driving and the truck died and she noticed a large puddle of gas underneath the truck.

Ford said a line came undone, they called and talked to the shop that installed the tank & had to adjust part of the fuel line that was the wrong size according to the mechanic who fixed it

The shop that did the install covered the cost to fix it

Did the forscan changes and zeroed fuel history so hopefully DTE will adjust over the next few fill ups

Glad they got that resolved and covered it. What part of CO are you in? The install by Bullhide 4x4 in Fort Collins turned out great. Curious how a fuel line was the wrong size. That seems as if it were a part issue from Transfer Flow if truly the case.

I need to scan the invoice from Ford and e mail it to Transfer Flow to see what they say. I’m caught in the middle and have to trust Ford repaired it correctly, wish I had time to take it back to the installer and have them inspect it. Possibly when I get home if it does not leave us stranded

Here is what Ford said::

Good info. Looks like an installer issue to me as they didn't connect it securely which allowed it to come undone. Ford didn't need different parts just needed to ensure it coupled correctly.

How long after install did this happen?

I’m glad to know your vehicle was repaired without any serious damage. This may be way off, I’m diving into my install tomorrow. Post #478 was a great reminder, to pay close attention to the locking fuel fittings. Perhaps this was what was the cause of your leak. Maybe not a fully seated lock/fitting. If so this definitely would be an area of consideration for those installing going forward. Thanks for sharing your less than ideal circumstance. Hope it’s smooth sailing from here on.

I uses Warners Muffler - they do fuel tanks, hitch's and mufflers. when you go there - nothing fancy - but they have been installing tanks for years. They are what I would call a good old school down and down and dirty shop with guys who install, fab and generally make $#It work all day, everyday. They even recommended after intstall they fill tank full at the gas station down the street and check for leaks etc. (you pay for the gas). All in all a great experience working with them.

Also note in Calif. either you take the tank or the dealer has to dispose of it. If they do they charge $85 to do so. No putting old fuel tanks in the trash. they have to be recycled at a hazardous waste facility.

I just called and they told me they don’t do gasoline, just diesel. Can you confirm you had your gas tank installed? If so, who did you work with?

They did install my overside tank but mine was a 6.7 diesel - S&B Tanks - they also did Transferflow - but another member also called after I posted and was told same - fire hazard with welding going on, so they don't do gas tanks - sorry for the leading you astray.

I have the same problem with my local TransferFlow preferred installers. They don't want to do the gas fuel tanks. One said they would but set the price high enough that I wasn't about to pay that much. Sounds like a lame excuse to me but I guess it's their prerogative.

Warners told me the same thing. I ended up driving to Chico to have TransferFlow install it. If you have the time, I think it’s worth the trip.
