Awesome. Thank you!

This is so helpful for someone like me wading into forscan for the first time! Thank you so much for making the post and directing me to it.

I’m scheduled to get the tank installed next early week and this is what I’m planning on doing as the installer does not do forescan
Same. I'm getting mine installed tomorrow!

Good luck guys... That extra capacity is going to be sweet!!!

This was really my one and only "issue" or "complaint" with the shortbed 7.3 Tremor. Range with the smaller than my '13 F150 tank. After tomorrow it's absolutely perfect for my needs.

No question - one of the best mods you will make to your truck!

Tank has been installed! Took 54 gallons on first fuel up at the station. I had brought a gas can along with me in case I ran out of gas on the way there (which I did 4 miles away and 26 miles past empty ha). I put a gallon in and got to the shop. The remaining 4 gallons went into the new tank. So far all seems well. I programmed the new tank size with Forscan before I left the shop.

Initial DTE seems off, but I'll give it some time to calculate. I was 10 miles away from fueling up and after resetting trip it showed 512 miles until empty at 11.7 mpg which is ~44 gallons gallons remaining. So even with a little fuel in the tank past empty I figure that's got to be 10 gallons short. I'm guessing it will be closer after next fuel up and will monitor to make sure.

How long did it take to install? Sounds like everything went smoothly even planning on running out of gas. How hard was it to get started after running out of gas? Sounds like they designed the tank to get the most out of the tank so you don’t have gallons left after running out.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes for the DTE to learn the new tank

They quoted me 4 hour install, it took 5 hours to install, and I was there for 6 hours (lunch break). They charged me the original quote of 4 hours @ $110 per/hr which I feel is very reasonable for the installation.

Truck started immediately after putting in ~1 gallon or so. It was like a full tank of gas zero hesitation or issue.

I'm not yet convinced the DTE will "auto" correct after time. Doing some reading and lots of people having similar things happen after changing tank sizes. There's a few other Forscan settings I'm going to research a little and see if I can't get it closer. There's a DTE "reserve" type setting which looks like it tells the truck how much fuel to have after hitting empty. It's currently set to "6". There's also some other setting that changes the way the algorithm calculates DTE. I've also seen people set the tank size larger to get closer in line to how much gas is actually in the tank so DTE is more accurate (why I don't know).

Glad that it was such a smooth install. Your the first person in this thread saying the DTE was not spot on after updating forscan. Wonder if ford had multiple settings for the same truck depending on configuration, will be interesting to see what you come up with

I'll probably just leave it be for a few fuel ups and see if it comes back around. There has been some things I've read that suggests the algorithm gets reset when you make changes and it takes driving to calculate more accurately over time. To me it seems like a simple calculation. If the tank is 58 gallons and you've gone 10 miles averaging 11.7 mpg and the reserve past empty is set to 6 gallons, that's 58 - 6 - ~1 = 51 x 11.7 = 596 miles. Mine was showing 512. Which is probably closer to being 7 gallons off DTE. With reserve that makes it 13 gallons of vanishing gas.

I had my tank size "reset" in Forescan to 60 gallons (I have diesel) and that has given me an accurate gauge reading to the last gallon - if I show a certain mpg and miles remaining - when I fill up the gallons I expect to put in seems to be right on.

The DTE is set off of your fuel use history - you can go into settings on the main dash and set it to fuel mileage last 30 minutes or a longer period. Your choice and it will give you a reading based on the fuel mileage for that period. If I fill up after a long tow at 8.5 mpg +/- - I will get a reading in the 510 mile range - if I fill up after a few tanks with no towing - getting 15 MPG I will get a reading in the 900 + mile range.

I have mine set to last 30 minutes - so recently I filled up after some towing and I got reading of 587 miles - I drove 125 mile round trip to San Diego with no trailer and when I got back the reading was 675 miles - so it will go up as your drive, if the mileage is recalculating - :) Best reading I ever I got was 981 miles to empty!

Love the large tanks!

Yea we'll see what happens after some time. That's exactly how I calculated the DTE based off of the history. It was 11.7 mpg and I had just put in 54 gallons from pump + 4 gallons from a can and drove ~10 miles. DTE was 512. 512/11.7 = ~44 gallons. ~13 gallons short.

Can you elaborate on how to find this setting? I have looked everywhere I could think of and can’t find it.

How long does it take the gas gauge to learn the new tank and actually be accurate?
It's immediate. No learning involved. Speaking toward the gas gauge itself and not the distance to empty.

I have not changed the tank size in Forscan for the DTE. I can say that the DTE gets closer to accurate the closer to empty you get. Naturally it's way off at the start and is off through the first 3/4 of a tank. Then it starts to catch up. Basically, DTE is useless 😒 unless the Forscan mod is done. Tank gauge is acceptably accurate however. I put it that way because it is not totally linear. The first quarter tank goes pretty fast the next two quarters seems to go forever and the last is about like the first. Going by feel, or simply anecdotal evidence, it seems like 12 gallons for first and fourth quarters and the rest split evenly between the second and third quarters or 16-17 gallons apiece. This is not unusual to me as I have had other cars that did similar. My Dodge, when full, takes awhile before the needle moves at all then goes quickly across the gauge.

I have a question about fuel line quick disconnects required to install the transfer flow tank. Maybe someone that installed their own can help me?

I had my tank installed last Friday. Yesterday one of the stainless fuel lines came out of the quick connect fitting. I cannot find anything online that shows how the particular disconnect works. The one that failed is one of the two forward most connectors, the black one. These are were the transfer flow stainless fuel lines connect to the trucks existing fitting. I will try to post some photos.

I spoke to the dealer that did the install and they told me that I should be able to just push the line back in. I tried this but it does not work. Line goes in but can be pulled right back out. I wonder if I have to pull out the retainer clips to get the line back in and then push them back in. The fitting is facing up so I can’t see the top of the clips to figure out how they might work. Hopefully someone has done the install and provide some tips on how to make this connection.

On my Powerstroke upper filter, that exact fitting is extremely difficult to get past the retaining 'flare' of the pipe.
