Yep...that is always an option. I hate OBD power sources. Running to the fuse box for ACC and BATT power is the only way to go IMPO. It's also very easy to go to the fuse box and just use fuse taps.To satisfy my curiosity, I reached out to Sapium via Amazon and asked:
They just replied with:

So it sounds feasible to just lop off the OBD2 connector and just wire it to a fuse and//or upfitter.
Been using my Nextbase 4K IQ for three years and it's the tits!

I honked my air horn at this truck and he responded with his cute OEM. He had to pull up just to hear it again. Bwwwaauh!

I'd upload other pics and vids but I value my forum membership.
What do you mean by need? Would be purely a “I could do it…” and the lack of self-control would be “you could do it…”. HahaWhy would you need 3 back up batteries???
That’s an added bonus if it comes with thoseWell, PM is a thing...
You can typically use ANY manufacturers back up battery systems on any dash cam. It is not manufacturer specific and you can make any of the work for you application. What do you mean by need? Would be purely a “I could do it…” and the lack of self-control would be “you could do it…”. Haha
In seriousness though, the Viofo batteries are on the lower capacity, falling between the two options Thinkware offers, so it’ll only extend parking mode for about ~15hrs on a A329. So it would definitely be a niche case use, but with my work, I do end up having the park the truck for 2-3 days at a time regularly out in the field, so more parking time is handy.
I have been looking for a dash camera for a while and thought I had settled on the Wolfbox until I read some comments that you need to dissect the factory mirror and affix a factory circuit board to the back of the Wolfbox to maintain some functions. That didn't appeal to me, as I wanted something as unobtrusive as possible, so I went back to the drawing board and happened across this on Amazon that replaces the factory plastic rain sensor cover with one that has a 4K dash camera molded in.
Sapium Dash Camera for Super Duty
I hadn't heard of the brand, but it was Amazon so I decided to give it a try since it would be easy to return.
It arrived well packaged, with two different options for power. One is a simple pigtail connector that grabs power from the rain sensor and the other runs to the OBD2 connector for constant power and thus "parking mode". Wire length included for the rear channel camera and the GPS sensor was more than adequate. Installation was as simple as popping the factory cover off, plugging in three wires, popping the new cover with the camera in place and then tucking the wiring above the edge of the headliner. The new cover with the camera is a good color match for the factory black cover.
It will run off of either of two different apps that are specified in the instructions. You connect to it with your phone via Wi-Fi to download files and manage various settings. It has 128gb of built in storage, or you can opt to use up to 1TB microSD card. I personally like that option so I can grab the card after an accident and try to maintain control of the evidence.
So far, the only thing I wish was different is having to plug it into the OBD2 for parking mode. I would have preferred a simple hard wirable harness that I could have done myself. I might dissect the OBD2 harness they sent and do that anyway. It does have a third pin in the connector that hooks to one of the canbus pins in the OBD2, so would have to figure out if that is needed, and if so, how to handle that.
Pictures to follow shortly.

Been carrying that model for over a decade. I feel naked and afraid without it at this point.Carry that same knife daily.
You can cut off the OBD connector and hardwire it. All you need is BATT, IGN and GROUND.Carry that same knife daily.

That tends to happen when people visitSame here. Last week wife and I flew to Vegas for Conexpo and I felt naked
Yep...easy peasy! BATT, IGN, and Ground is all you need. Much better going to the fuse panel versus the OBD port.
Mine showed up today, gonna try and get it setup in the next little bit. Don’t suppose you happen to recall what fuses you tapped for power and accy? I just discovered I left my multimeter at work, so I don’t have access for 10 days now.Yep...easy peasy! BATT, IGN, and Ground is all you need. My truck was just built last Thursday and not delivered yet so I am not the best person to help with your question. Happy to help answer questions if you run into install issues. You can PM me and I'll share my cell with you and anyone else that needs help wiring just about anything to their trick.Mine showed up today, gonna try and get it setup in the next little bit. For power and ground I used the harness sold by @NEOHIO. I think it feeds from fuse 101 IIRC. For ignition, in used the 5A power on feed from the PTO harness under the passenger side dash.Mine showed up today, gonna try and get it setup in the next little bit. Depending on which circuit you use on the harness. It is either controlled by underhood 58 or 101. (23+ trucks)For power and ground I used the harness sold by @NEOHIO. I think it feeds from fuse 101 IIRC. For ignition, in used the 5A power on feed from the PTO harness under the passenger side dash.
Ahh nice. I’m still debating my NEOHIO harness, I’m thinking I’m gonna eventually go with one to run to the back seat for goodies back there, so I might do the fuse tap replacement cover and tap the passenger fuse box.For power and ground I used the harness sold by @NEOHIO. Great info, thank you.VIOFO A229 Pro, A329 series, Blackvue, and Thinkware are the three best dash cams on the market. You do pay for what you get. Not a fan of these Amazon dash cams that have flooded the market. May look "good" but no where near the quality and capabilities of the three I mentioned. As a reference, check out www.thedashcamstore.com. I don't sell these...just install them so nothing in it for me...just trying to help educate folks.
