Thanks
@FuelTankReInforcedSkidPlt for the prompt.
Since we are all staying at different locations, I thought it best for us to meet-up at the starting point for the trails each day.
Friday by 8:50 a.m.: Meet-up at Forest 525 rd / Loy Butte Rd and Route 89A (gps: 34°48'51.1"N 111°54'18.4"W / R37V+MXJ Cottonwood, Arizona). This is about 5.7 miles down Route 89A from my hotel (Hilton Grand Vacations Club Sedona Summit). Note there is no off ramp, you'll just turn right onto Forest 525 and there is large turn out on the left side of the road about 0.1 miles down where we can meet to air down our tires).
Saturday by 8:45 a.m.: Meet-up on Rocky Park Road and I-17 (34°51'11.2"N 111°36'23.6"W / V93V+69W Munds Park, Arizona). The directions from my hotel have me taking the 179 south to I-17 north, exit 315 - Rocky Park Road - 35.2 miles). The offramp looks to be long enough and with enough shoulder that we can all pull over and air down there as the trail starts just around the corner (and there isn't really anywhere good that will accommodate all of us to do that on the trail). Note travel time to the meet-up point is about 45 min - 1 hour from most of the hotels we're booked at, so please plan accordingly.
Lunch Reminder:
- Friday: We will have a lunch stop at Robbers Roost/Sycamore Pass Intersection (turn left onto Robbers Roost) - Junction of FR 525C and FR 9530 where there looks to be ample space for us to park. Note that there are no services here. Bring food, water and whatever else you might want/need for a picnic lunch in the desert.
- Saturday: There are two options for lunch (copied below). These are 2.5 miles up I-17 so will likely require airing-up for the short trip up the highway.
The routes (attached for reference) on Friday all pretty common up until the lunch break and on Saturday after lunch. Depending on your appetite for continued off-roading, you can choose your own adventure and make either day a shorter/longer day. If you're wanting a shorter Friday, options A, B and C will shave off a bit of time (with route A being the shortest, B next longest, C longer than B).
For Saturday, you have a few ways you can shorten/lengthen the day. Want to sleep-in but still so some off roading in the morning? Pick routes A and B as you can shave of an hour or two. Route C will likely give you a longer lunch break. I suggest if you're going to cut any thing out, cut the morning routes on Saturday as the after lunch run through Schnebly Hill Road is one of the most scenic drives in the area.
Lastly, most of the trails are forest service roads - so not like what those in dirt bikes or ATVs are riding on (much more technical and way too narrow for our trucks). Where feasible, we'll want to keep the pace up to help us better manage time. Ideally, even if you're doing the longest routes, we'll end each day around 5 p.m. (or sooner if possible) to give everyone time to head back to their hotel to freshen up for dinner.
