Rough Country Hidden Winch Mount

Anyone ever indicate if an aftermarket winch works with no modification?

I've been wondering about the Sherpa.
If I wait too much longer I may just dive in on it myself and find out.

The Sherpa should fit great, but I may be against seeing any amount of the yellow winch showing from the front of the truck, so decisions decisions. 🤔

Man, I hadn't thought about that... and now I wish I hadn't!

Assuming someone who is anal enough to worry about the color of their mostly-hidden winch is also too anal to settle for a rattle-can solution... so depending on the severity of your disease, you could always disassemble the Sherpa and then send the case components off to be powder-coated.

But, that's a very big solution to a very small problem.

The EVO 12S is installed , I just need to finish the control box mount. If I had to do it over again I would just buy the RC winch and replace it if it dies because I live in the salt belt. Everything has been a pain in the ass so far but it does fit. You will be cutting the current mount from RC 3/4" off the top and I was fine with that. My biggest issue is and its my fault for not seeing this sooner is the factory control box mount will not work with the way the winch is mounted because the line comes off the top so I had to purchase the Warn tie bar kit to replace it hoping it would clear and it does not the first wrap coming off the winch about 15' is useless because to rubs the tie bar, I guess you could shorten the line but I am not right now maybe later on I will. Also the hawse mount will hit the winch so you will need a 1/2" spacer so it clears, see picture and you will need to connect the wires to the winch before placing the bumper back on be careful the wires will get pinched, see picture. The bumpers mounting connection on the left side will need trimmed to clear the winch before reinstalling the bumper i think I ended up cutting about 3/8" off if I remember correctly see picture but its not very good. Assemble the RC plate with the winch and keep the bolts loose and install as one unit I used a floor jack and it worked great. That's it for now I will post the relocated control box when its finished. list of what needs cut below.
1. RC mounting plate 3/4" to clear cooler
2. RC mounting plate on clutch side , cut the corner off so the winch can be attached to the plate
3. cut the bumper connection plate left side on the bumper about 3/8" to clear the winch
I'm sure this post is not crystal clear but if you are mechanically inclined you should be fine, almost forgot you will need to replace the 3 bumper skirt bolts with well i don't know what they are called see picture .

1st world problems.

Once my truck is built, I'll give this a go, I don't mind the color.
It will all be covered in Mud soon enough

After watching this, I could have a few sitting on the shelf before exceeding the factory cost... just pondering. All you need is a solid mounting bracket.

The day I installed the new bumper/Sherpa I was a bit worried about this. I considered a bit of black spray paint for sure. Now, after having it a few months, I don’t care at all or notice at all. Sherpa makes an incredible winch for a great price. Very glad I went that route

Yours is an aftermarket bumper, which makes the winch more obscure from sight. (y)

There’s two huge holes that allow your hand to go through to operate it. You can easily see the yellow.

Other angle shows just as much yellow - like I said, bothered me a bit when i installed it, now, couldn’t care less. Love having that bad boy up there

I have a Gorman kit still packeted up from them. Never even opened it. Ordered it and then a few days later ended up going aftermarket bumper anyway. I’m happy to part with it for $400 plus shipping. Should save some money over buying it from them (I think they charge $600 plus some shipping if I remember right)
Do you still
Have this?
