I’ve seen this topic on other forums, so I thought it might be of interest here. What’s the backstory on your forum name?

In my case, from the time I was a small child I spent a lot of time on the ocean for work and play. That developed a healthy respect for how the weather and ocean can change from friendly to dangerous, and how a safe, sturdy boat can be a lifesaver. I saw Boston Whaler boats in service in the military, police, and fire service, and they remained seaworthy after ridiculous abuse, including many hull-penetrating rounds from large-bore rifles, so I wanted one for a family fishing/diving boat. Unfortunately, whalers have been ridiculously expensive since the early 80s. New ones were far beyond my financial reach, so I decided to buy an older one and restore it. That became a habit, as it allowed me to own boats that were like new for about 25% of the new cost. The last one I did was a 27 foot whaler Outrage with twin Yamaha 225s on an offshore bracket (“whaler-drive”). To this day, I’d rather be offshore in a storm in that boat than most boats twice its size.
@Whaler27 I merged this with the existing thread, but moved it under "Ford Tremor Talk" where you originally posted...

Oh, this brings up high school memories. I got into marching band as bass drummer. I forget how it came to the knowledge, a senior female that was in the drum line said that only one of us could like wolves, and said I'd be just food for wolves being a freshman / smaller back then. So it became WolfChow as my marching band nickname. Kept it since. (OG gamer tag before was Best_44, from being kid, watching Nascar and playing w/ hotwheels growing up (which was #44)).

Thanks! I used the search engine to see if I was duplicating an existing topic, but didn’t think to search using “moniker”.

Mine is boring but our high school mascot is a Caveman and I'm an IT nerd that started an IT (Information Technology) support company a long time ago named Cavemen Technology Services. Now I'm in the oil and gas business in the Operation Technology field. No more desktop support and now all about automation.

Mine’s pretty self explanatory, I use it on all the forums I am part of (here, Ford Truck Enthusiasts SnipersHide and Long Rang Hunting).

I grew up in TX (family actually settled there many generations ago c. 1839-1840 timeframe so I am officially a Son of the Republic). Favorite pastime since pretty much as soon as I could walk and hold a gun, was hunting at the family ranch just outside of Columbus, TX (Alleyton to be specific).

Moved out to SoCal a little over two years ago for work but still make it back to hunt 2-3 time a year as well as an occasional trip to Colorado for Elk when I can swing it.

100% Texan with family roots three years after Mexico's control and you're in California!? Stick to your guns and roots! 🤪

Hmm, I suppose mine seems self explanatory enough.

But anyways, I started out my career as a mechanic and eventually that really wasn't paying the bills, so I got a job in new construction doing HVAC install. Eventually I moved up from residential work to commercial to big industrial stuff. I kind of found my niche there with big hydronic cooling chillers and steam process equipment. I've always been notorious for needing to find the explanation in the physics begins some of the problems that I've dealt with on equipment, sometimes to a fault. As in I wouldn't take "that's just what happens" for an answer. I've always liked the physics and thermodynamics involved in refrigeration. Eventually I was able to get a job in engineering and testing. So now I get to play with stuff and try to brake it, or find out how it broke.

My screen name isn't that fantastic, but it's what I thought of at the time. Bill Nye was a science guy, so I figured I could be one too.

Optimus comes from the Latin word optimus, which means "best" and prime means "the best individual".

My original name before I became a leader was Orion Pax: Orion refers to the mythological Greek hunter and Pax is Latin for peace.

We have a HUGE number of Texans coming to the northwest to hunt. That’s surprising to me, because it seems like you can hunt anything in Texas, including every type of exotic African animal on huge private ranches.

Also, I received the Cabelas catalog for more than forty years. For many years I saw devices in there that were prohibited in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. I wondered who could use them, so I asked about it when I visited a Cabelas store. The guy said “Texas!” Then I saw videos of Texans hunting hogs from a helicopter with M4s… Seems you guys can use anything but grenade launchers down there. (Wait, can you use grenade launchers?) Sounds like hunters paradise as long as the supply of game lasts!
