Knife Collections, Knives, EDCs

That’s awesome man I always wanted to learn how to forge but at this point my shoulders are so destroyed I wouldn’t be able to be swingin hammers like that lol I’d have start right out with a power hammer and a press $$$$
Yes...I had it all...a 75lb Little Giant Hammer and two 400lb Hay Budden anvils I got out of a retired railroad maintenance building in 1974. I danced the "Carbon Waltz" for many years.
Now...I just act retired and sip top shelf Scotch...with Tylenol. ;)

My EDC for over 35 years was the original Leatherman I had as a Lieutenant back in the day. Loved it because the pliers could get in to straighten pins on commo cables in the tank and other assorted chores. Unfortunately I snapped the blade a couple weeks ago so I am going to have to find a new one. Open to any suggestions…

I had one of the first Leatherman tools ever made back in 72ish (forgot actual date) and also broke my pair. Unfortunately, the replacement process was to send another Leatherman tool, which I received and still own, but it wasn't near as cool as the original. The originals actually had blades made in Japan and stamped on one of the blades.

Since then, I have been through the gamut of different styles, Wave, Super Tool, Surge, etc. I wear them out or break them then get replacements. But the wait is too long so, I end up buying another one to suffice. I currently have three Surge models, and one is black anodized with a flag and eagle etched into it. (My favorite so far.) I bought a custom sheath for it on Etsy, leather with pouches to hold the accessories.

The others are just working tools. I use or abuse them depending on the projects I need them for. Several are just part of the collection I don't really use anymore. Great tools.

Pretty low-brow compared to a lot of you folks, but my wife and I have gifted each other a variety of Case pocket knives over the years. They’re always doing special runs and make some beautiful and useful knives.
My EDC for years was a good ole Vitrinox Swiss Army Knife, Cadet model. Still have one in the ski-bag. They also make some really functional kitchen knives. If you’ve never been to the factory, it’s worth a look. Stop in next time you’re in Switzerland.
I’ve had a variety of Buck knives, and have had one in my pocket daily for some years now. I have a factory made switch blade Hunter that I bought from a very interesting old man who worked there.
Leathermans are great, but the steel is brittle, I’ve broken a few.
I’ve also made quite a few knives, but nothing like Junebuggy’s, which are by all appearances world-class.
A person really can’t have too many knives. I’ve got them on the workbench, on the windowsill, in the truck, gear-bags, desk, pocket, you name it. I always get a chuckle when someone asks “do you have a knife?”

If anyone has a deep love for ESEE knives, I'm searching for a lost species.

While it always depends on your use case with any knife and I don't personally like OTF knives, any Benchmade is always a good choice.

Send it back to Leatherman if should have a lifetime warranty.

The latest novelty that I thought I needed. 😆 Hey, it's legal in Calif.

I have a few KA-BARs (A USMC, a USN and about five or six Beckers), two Horsewright customs, a Cold Steel, some Kershaw folders, a Benchmade Mini Osborne that I daily... and some custom stuff that belonged to my dad.

Holy smokes. I just remembered I bought an Olive Arbor fixed blade. I don't know what happened... I went into a trance or something. Beautiful knife, though. But, the price...

I'd post a picture but the stuff's buried while our house is being painted.

Thanks for asking, my good man. It did end well, but there were some complications upon installing attic insulation. All is well over our heads, but the paint crew (2 men and the occasional boss) are still here. It's been just over one month of labor at our place. It'll be nice to, once everyone's gone, to clean up, get organized, and get my garage work bench back along with my garage awning resurrected... and get back to my camp trailer punch list. Who's retired? I wanna go back to work to find a place to relax!

I may be able today to get to my knives stash and photo the Olive and one of my favorite Beckers.

I did refresh the edge yesterday on my Mini Osborne! so that feels good to have accomplished. It's niiice. I used a WorkSharp plastic jig station. It's a little flimsy but when using care I can get good results.

Well, shoot...a couple more that I had just finished this winter. Sadly, my locked shop was broken into last Wednesday night, and these as well as many of my smithing tools and other things were taken. I've decided at my age now, I'm too old to work this hard on building these - only to see them taken like this so, I'm trimming the wick down now in my shop for good and no longer going to make them anymore. It's getting pretty sad out there, fellas...guard your stuff the best you can. ☹️

Oh wow, that’s horrible news! I was thinking you’re fairly secluded. Do you think they cased you out, or that it was random?
That shit is the main reason I have so many trail cameras on my property. F’n no good junkie thieves.

Don’t quit. Your skills are too valuable. At least pass them along by mentoring others (maybe you already have). Are you a member of the NW Blacksmith Association?

I used to be a Member of NWBA as well ABANA too. Father Time took hold of me now and I think it's
time to slow way down - maybe as you said, mentor more I suppose (which I have done many times) and work harder at not being a victim like this again. Not sure how they singled me out, but law enforcement said the chances of a recovery is slim as things like this get scattered out for simple cash very quickly. It's just shameful how much of this is happening now I was told.

You are obviously a stand-up guy. I applaud your contributions to the craft.
I’m reminded to change the batteries in the camera at the gate. ☹️
