Best Trailer Hitch - Thoughts?

Last edited:
Most of those hitches shown hang down so far that they would never work for me. I'd be dragging them on every driveway, not to mention trying to go off-road. Sometimes things designed to do everything, end up being very bad at some things. Also, I like to keep the attachment as close to the truck as possible to reduce the leverage. Finally, most of them are designed for a ball coupler only and would never work with a McHitch style articulating coupler. It's better to specialize and do one thing very well, than to try to do everything with the same part.

I have used the rhino hitch the past few years. It's great you can adjust it while it's still connected. rhino hitch

Wow that is cool!

Reminder about Rhino hitches when you get into ones rated above 10,000 pounds:
Note for yourself and anyone else looking at the Rhino Hitch, the Convert-A-Ball it comes with is only rated for a 10,000 pound trailer. Plenty for OP’s stated trailer, but good to be aware of what you’re actually getting.

There are still no warnings or caveats on their website. I hope it’s a good product that was actually well engineered. It seems like it!

But continuing to sell a hitch marketed for, in the worst case, 16,000 pounds trailer weight, that can only tow 10,000 out of the box, without any published warnings is a tough pill for me to swallow.

I sure hope there’s a giant warning in the box when you open it up.

I have had normal hitches from autozone/home depot, weigh-safe, and bullet proof hitches. Both my weigh-safe and bullet proof hitches use the 3" shaft. That is one of my favorite parts. I like having too much and not being concerned tow ratings.

I really like the weigh-safe drop hitch. However, it does not support it being in the raised position. I needed this for my M1102 trailer that is tall even with my truck. I switched over to a 3" Bullet proof hitch with 6" drop. I probably could have gone with the 8" but I wanted more ground clearance. I also have the pintle attachment since my M1102 needs that style.

I also have a 2.5" shaft Bulletproof 8" drop/raised hitch for towing my M1102 with my camper. I had to go with 2.5 for it to fit in my hitch extension that took my 3" hitch to a 2.5".

Overall both hitches feel amazing. I love the weight reading on my weigh-safe hitch, but I prefer the strength and versatility with my Bulletproof hitch. I will admit that both can be quite overkill if you are not towing anything that big.

Do the Reverse Sensors beep with the Bullet Proof? I have seen some comments on youtube saying they do so, and some saying they don't?

It might be a little annoying if I am not hooked up and when I put in reverse I hear constant beeping, although there is a button to turn that off I think

It does extend from the bumper about 11" so the sensors do see it. However, I have mainly been using it with it in the rise position with my high trailer. But usually I just turn the beeping off. I can check with the hitch in the normal drop down position.

I usually remove my hitch and add in my Factory 55 HitchLink 3.0 for attaching my recover rope if needed. Unless I am towing a lot then I will keep the hitch in.

I'm running a shocker air maxx. Only hitch ill use now. Adjustable height, lots of coupler options, and just add air for different tongue weight. 20k rating The best part is the amount of beat you get from your trailer that it absorbes. Wife would get motion sick with a regulator hitch on my 04 f350 pulling a 14k bumper pull. She was fine after the new hitch. Rough montana roads.

I've had a lot of luck with this hitch I purchased on Etsy. I was really drunk one night and added it to my cart (I know, late night shopping on Amazon, Temu, etc). So far, it's worked wonders. The towing capacity is 2lbs. That's all I know so don't ask me about other specifications. I don't even know the company name.

Who's the victim here?

The guy doesn't understand physics. The damage was going to happen anyway. At least this way, the insurance company (ies) only have to "fix" one vehicle. And besides, the hitch protected at least one headlight on the Lexus.

I don't leave my hitch in for two reasons. I don't want someone else or myself to hit it with my shin, and I don't want people seeing a premium hitch that they could perhaps make their own. Instead, I have a filler when not towing.

What's with what appears to read "PHOTO4WS100" on the plate bracket? I need an explanation. 🤪

I've settled on the covert-a-ball cushion hitch inserts. They are rated to 18K# for the 2.5" shank insert

Now, if they ran into one of us without a hitch they would be all like, " why the fxxk are we paying for these huge trucks to run around with no hitch!?". While filming our ass end stuck in their windshield. 🤦
