23+ Front Axle change too?

Seems like they are standardizing on those axles for ‘24 for all Tremors, since my HO built 11/23 has the same ones

did you have a camper package or snowplow package?

GAWR of 5600# for the Diesel
GAWR of 4800# for the Gas.
Sure looks like the same axle - however I cant find a MAX GAWR for it


Keep in mind the original Dana 60 was designed for a 1-ton pickup with a 4,500-pound front gross axle weight rating (GAWR)


The Dana Super 60 high-pinion front axle was designed for the ’05-and newer F-450 and F-550 Super Dutys, where it’s rated to support 7,000 pounds of gross axle weight (GAWR) and cope with more than 600 lb-ft of engine torque.

Get photos of the gears and the numbers on them. This will tell us for sure what it is. Also get photos to identify the limited slip.

The engine torque does not even come into play here and there is no half and half torque split.

If the transfer case had a center differential, then the front and rear would get equal torque, but it doesn't. In 4wd mode, the front and rear are locked together so it depends on where the traction is. If the rear is on ice and the front is on dry pavement, the front gets nearly all of the torque.

The engine torque is multiplied by the transmission and transfer case gearing. In our case in low gear and 4lo, this is a factor of 12.2. This means either drive shaft could see 14,636 ft-lbs of torque if the tires had infinite traction. But they don't, so the amount of torque seen by the differential is limited by the tire contact patch, not the engine.

With 5600 lbs on the axle, 35" tall tires, 3.55 gears and a coefficient of friction of 1, the maximum torque that the pinion and driveshaft could see is limited to 5600x(35/2/12)/3.55 = 2300 ft-lbs. So this is what the differential needs to be rated for.

Notice that the this is proportional to not just the GAWR, but the tire diameter. For 37" tires this becomes 2432 ft-lbs and for 40" tires it becomes 2629 ft-lbs.

So if they are putting the 10 bolt M256 in the F-450 and the 14 bolt M235 in the F-350 DRW, Ford must still consider the M256 to be stronger than the M235.

This just showed up today, I’ll see if it fits in a few weeks when the truck comes in. It’s kinda annoying that it didn’t come with a fill plug, But the gasket is top notch.

I'd be a bit disappointed that it did not come with a sight plug, and a top down magnet like the other high dollar gear covers

I had this on a AAM axle with no issues at all
plus they make an option for a temp sensor from the top

That's cool. If if fits and anyone ever questions the Raptor "R", tell them you have a "Super Duty Raptor". If they say there is no such thing then tell them to look under your running boards. Mine have this.

I don't think AFE got the memo that the 23+ front end is 14 bolt, vice 10 bolts super 60

the sight glass , plus top magnet is a nice touch, now if only they make one for the 2024 F350 etc

I'll add it to my admins list (wife) to email them and find out about the new M235 (presumed) gear cover
