2022 Sync 4 software update with full screen carplay/android auto

If you want to get this done yourself you can rent my mongoose cable and I can walk you through the process. Many of us were in the same boat with no updates. I am sure you have about 10 updates total that need to be done, probably about 8 hours worth. Some dealers will do it, mine would not, so I did it myself.
That would be awesome, I'm getting nothing but pushback from my dealer, they just told me to "go get a second opinion then" this morning.

I'd much rather do it myself than deal with these guys. I'll send you a PM

I believe someone posted a phone number for Ford OTA support. I thought it was in this thread but I can't find it.
Can someone help a brother out?

I found a number on another forum: 800-392-3673. It's not directly to the OTA support group, but I reached them easily. Spoke to "Destiny" who advised there have definitely been OTA updates since I took delivery of my truck. I explained that I consider this a warranty issue and she opened a case. She attempted to call my dealer but no answer in the service dept (they never answer the phone, nor do they return calls after leaving a message). Supposedly, the dealer can see the case number and Destiny's notes, so I'll stop by and pester them next week.

I may have missed it already being posted in this thread or another one, but looks like Ford might be listening when it comes to people not getting software updates?

Saw an “update installed” icon in my truck this evening. Going to the details I saw this:

(Missed it in the picture, but it’s version 4.2.1.)

Won’t help those stuck on an older version, but once updated it will hopefully add some user clarity to why an update might not be installing.

I actually got a hold of them today. They created a case # and suggested I schedule with the dealer for a forced FDRS update. Called the dealer and they said the issue with not updating via OTA is common. Said they would need the truck for one full day, maybe two to get things done.

I was planning to go that route, but decided it would be more convenient for me to rent the cable and perform the updates myself. My truck is our only vehicle, so it's less than desirable to leave it with a dealer for an extended time.

How difficult was it for you to do it yourself? I might go that route too and rent the cable from the forum member. I just have zero trust with dealers and don’t like giving my truck unless absolutely necessary. How long did it take?

I had a number of updates, not all related to the GVM and APIM (those are the modules involved in the OTA updates). I spent about 2 hours on the miscellaneous updates the first evening, then about 7 hours the following day for the GVM and APIM updates.

It's really simple to do yourself, it just takes time.

That’s a good sign. Enough of us have gotten it fixed that maybe a service procedure has made its way out between dealers. At the very least your dealer is one of the few with a technician that has figured it out.

My 3.5.3 update failed back in April, no re-attempts since...

My experience with both the local dealer and "OTA support" was about the same. I found a senior tech who was familiar with the failed OTA, but came away from the conversation that warranty coverage is only assured if the APIM was found to be defective. Calling OTA support, they couldn't find a TSB that addressed this, but I a case number was created for me so that I might get "special financial assistance" if a forced FDRS upate of the APIM isn't covered by warranty. I was clear to Ford OTA that MY expectations were that I'm not out of pocket.

We shall see.

Get the cable and do it yourself.

F450_on_44s and I did mine last night. Went from Sync version 134 to 934. Couple of glitches but all worked out OK.

I used his laptop (he shipped it to me) and it only took about 3 hours to do everything. Probably because it was already downloaded on laptop and USB. He also zoom called me and walked me through the process. The help was very appreciated.

Every module needing updates was done. BCM, doors, PCM, plus GWM and APIM.

Going to do a few ForScan mods tonight.

It's already done!

Hey ya'll - just wanted to report in that 934 seems to have been the most stable build-yet. It does have a new issue where the Map on android auto fails to "draw" and that box of the screen will be blank sometimes... If you click the little minimize button to take it out of fullscreen...give it a moment and then expand it back out that USUALLY fixes it, but not always.

I will add that they included a new annoying feature in 934 though, that if you do get a Wireless disconnection...and you are moving...it disables the Android Auto connection button until you stop again. NOT COOL.

Largely...I've had the wireless disconnection issues stop happening, they've happened a couple times...but 90% less I believe.

UPDATE—Got the truck back from the dealer. They forced the update after replacing (warranty) both batteries and updated the APIM as well at no cost to me.

The only catch, I’m at v610 not v924, not sure what I’m missing out on.

A couple of things I have learned recently that I want to share with the community. This is the first time I have shipped my laptop out to someone and having the updates already downloaded by FDRS and on the thumb drive made this a 3 hour job vs 8 hours. Within 1-2 minutes of starting the APIM update it was ready to insert thumb drive into the Truck!

When I get my laptop back from Steve I will do some digging and see if I can find the directory where the updates are stored in windows and see if there is an easier way to speed this up for other users.

I have also used an Intel MacBook running bootcamp successfully to do FDRS updates. I have not tried virtualization on an M1 MacBook yet but plan to over the holiday break.

After these modules are updated there are some short term gremlins that seem to go away within 24 hours or after a drive such as interior dome light strobing, tpms being wrong, "user not logged in" message on the screen on revision 6xx and a few other random issues. So if anyone is updating their truck just be patient and drive it the next day and so far these items have gone away

Just an update to the module is all, probably some kind of safety programming for the window in case it detects an obstruction or something. Nothing wrong with the doors.
Ah. My rear doors behave as if the child safety is engaged regardless of how it's actually set. Was hoping it had an SSM fix too
