A couple of things I have learned recently that I want to share with the community. This is the first time I have shipped my laptop out to someone and having the updates already downloaded by FDRS and on the thumb drive made this a 3 hour job vs 8 hours. Within 1-2 minutes of starting the APIM update it was ready to insert thumb drive into the Truck!
When I get my laptop back from Steve I will do some digging and see if I can find the directory where the updates are stored in windows and see if there is an easier way to speed this up for other users.
I have also used an Intel MacBook running bootcamp successfully to do FDRS updates. I have not tried virtualization on an M1 MacBook yet but plan to over the holiday break.
After these modules are updated there are some short term gremlins that seem to go away within 24 hours or after a drive such as interior dome light strobing, tpms being wrong, "user not logged in" message on the screen on revision 6xx and a few other random issues. So if anyone is updating their truck just be patient and drive it the next day and so far these items have gone away
I will say that I was surprised how easy it went. The last two updates (GWM and APIM via USB) never gave me an update successful alert. I gave it 20 min, then acknowledged the update on FDRS. On the APIM, one part number failed, so I redid the update. When I inserted the USB the second time, it said that the update on the USB had already been done and then FDRS finished the process successfully.
Here are my notes from the update yesterday. (Also shared with F450_on_44s)
Pulsing dome light. Went away after short drive.
No ambient lights in footwells/doors. Reset Sync a couple of times. I have noticed that when I had to do that in the past, I had to re-enable ambient lighting. After the resets, ambient lighting worked as intended.
No drivetrain display (the one that shows power flowing to wheels). Started driving and it works.
Tire pressures finally reset to the right wheels as well.
U0415 code on Restraint Control Module (invalid data from ABS A). Per ForScan, this DTC does not trip a malfunction light. I figured out how to clear the DTC in ForScan and cleared it. Drove truck last night and today and it is still gone.
Tonight, we just did Bambi mode and temps over gauges in ForScan.
