2022 Sync 4 software update with full screen carplay/android auto

f450 on 44s please send me info on updates and what will be needed as I just bought a new to me 22 f250 tremor and wanting to make surer radio is up to date, also what is needed to change to put trip info, trailer info, power flow and what not to the sync 4 screen. How do you tell what software update I have. build date on truck is 8-21.
You can’t get DTE/Trip, trailer routing or power flow on a 22 super duty

On the sync display, go to “General”, then “About Sync” and look up your revision number. 934 is the latest on the 2022 model. I bet your on a 1xx revision since most of the early 2022 builds had this issue.

If you want to rent my cable and need help doing some updates PM me and I’ll get you squared away.

I have a 22 f250 late build 12/22 looking at the sync 4 software it doeant look like its ever had a update. I keep getting the down arrow like i have one trying to come through but when i go to the update it looks like its two pages but its completely blank. I bought the truck in april im second owner. I dont think anything has ever updated. I have forscan but cant find any updates. What is your charge for renting your stuff? Thank you, chris

There is likely a separate module that has to be updated. I can’t remember who but someone has a mongoose cable they rent to you and will ship it to you. You have to pay for the ford software and download everything. Then finally update your truck over several hours.

It may even be earlier in this thread.

Is there software for the Mongoose?? I know the FDRS is cheap and easy to use, just need the cable.

I know my 11/22 build truck got the OTA without needing any dealer visit or outside cables. I set the truck up to receive updates and waited. Sure enough it came through.

@ZooDad has a mongoose cable that he rents out. He helped me get my modules updated on my MY22 F350 PSD. He is also a FORScan wizard and provides wonderful support.

Looking for some help. My local Ford dealer had my truck for 3 days to perform the Sync 4 updates on my 22 Tremor only to tell me that Ford isn’t doing those updates anymore due to too many problems. Can anyone in the Long Beach, Ca or North Orange County area recommend a Ford dealer that can and will perform these updates? Many thanks!

You could get this cable :

Then use this site to get the FDRS subscription for $50 for 2 days of use.

The updates are stillavalible, but the dealers won't do it because Ford won't pay them. The updates take 2 to 4 hours depending on updates needed and internet speed. Also, a thumb drive is required, and that speed can make a difference in the time needed.

PSA - I had an update that wouldn't install and it was due to how I wired my Battery Tender in the past (not during the update)! It had nothing to do with battery voltage or SoC- I had a 40 amp regulated power supply attached to my batteries during the update, voltage was fine. What I discovered, after a lot of digging, was that the truck calculates battery life (capacity, not SoC) using the amp shunt and the truck thought my batteries were weak and thus failed the updates. In the past I had connected my Battery Tender directly to the battery so the truck didn't know that the battery was getting recharged since it bypassed the amp shunt. This had NOTHING to do with the battery voltage during the update nor the SoC of the battery during the update nor the real battery condition. The solution was to go into Forscan and tell the truck I installed new batteries, then the updates occurred just fine from my laptop. (afterwards I rewired the Battery Tender connector so current goes through the coulomb counter when trickle charging). I am thinking that the Ford version of the battery monitor is trying to calculate battery life (ie an old battery). Lots of time wasted to discover this.

@Whaleya : Can you post pics of how you have everything for the Battery Tender attached?? Not sure if you are PSD or Godzilla user.

'22s have the shitty leaky Motorcraft batteries and got the low power Deep Sleep messages in the Pass app...I kinda wonder if that was/is somehow connected to the SYNC updates failing? I've had both my batteries replaced twice and my third pair are leaking, the Deep Sleep issue corrected, and had to get the dealer to force the SYNC updates.

Consider reaching out to @F450_on_44s to rent his cable to perform the updates yourself.

For me the issue was that the batteries were OK but the truck (PSD) thought they were toast. I "replaced" them in Forscan but not in real life, then everything updated just fine.

For my trickle charger I originally had it connected direct to a battery. I now have the ground connected to an existing ground point in the engine bay, so current has to flow through the neg cable to the battery.

Here is the text from the OEM service manual. What it doesn't say is how battery state of charge is used by the computer.
Battery Current Sensor
The battery current sensor which only monitors current flow in/out of the battery, The battery current sensor is attached to the battery negative cable. It is supplied a 5-volt reference voltage and a ground from the BCM. The battery current sensor is a Hall-effect sensor that supplies an analog feedback signal to the BCM . The BCM reads the battery current sensor feedback voltage to determine how much current is flowing through the battery ground cable. The BCM uses this information for battery state of charge.

I received the 4.2.4 over-the-air update about a week ago. After thinking that was great I discovered that my bed camera and remote start climate control quit working. I was going to make a dealer appointment, but I had a vacation planned. It was a pain hooking up the fifth-wheel without the bed camera. but I got it done (LOL) and went on vacation. while on vacation I noticed the remote start climate control started working. Then when I went to connect the fifth-wheel I found the bed camera started working again. Life is good again!

Took my truck in for the sagging underbody insulation recall and also told the dealer about never getting any OTA sync updates. The service manager knew exactly what I was talking about and said they would take care of it.

So I’m feeling good at this point when I drop my truck off. Last Friday, I’m there at 7am and get a text around 9 that my truck was done. After hearing how time consuming this update can be, I found that to be oddly fast. Called in before I made the drive to pick it up and spoke to a different guy and he assured me everything was done. I show up later in the afternoon to pick my truck up and I asked how everything went with updating sync. The service manager goes and grabs the tech that had my truck and tells me “everything looks normal. You have your automatic updates turned on!”. SMDH. I said it’s been like that for the last 3 years! I get a blank stare in return.

A new service manager comes out that understands the process and they are sending out a mobile tech from the dealership today to force the updates. Apparently they have a hot spot on the truck. Fingers crossed, but I don’t have my hopes up.

Update: no luck. He had the thumb drive but apparently it wouldn’t take. He mentioned there is a large sync update that ford is scheduled to release in Q4 this year that is supposed to fix all this.

The sync updates are sequential, so even if they release a new update, you probably have at least two sync updates to do. The problem is the updates are so big it takes forever to download them with the 4G wireless modem in our trucks.

If you want to rent my cable I can help you update them without dealing with the dealer. Most trucks take 4-6 hours to run all the updates.

What version should we be on? I have auto-updates turned on but its not my DD and, at the moment, doesnt leave my polebarn much.

Still shocks me how few dealerships know how to install updates. It requires just basic knowledge of FDRS.

Makes me wonder how they diagnose other problems, since FDRS can be a critical tool for troubleshooting.

who was the dealer that wouldn't help you update?
