Why a 5th wheel? Why not a Travel Trailer

I had a TT. Will only own a 5th wheel now. They are a lot easier to get around with. They also have a ton of storage space

I love my Grand Design 25G bumper pull Toyhauler. The ceiling height is almost 10ft and it fits my 4 seat rzr no problem. Double slides, generator, solar.

And he brings to point some of the comments made above. It really depends what you’re looking for. My tt was 32’ and I wouldn’t want a smaller one. You might be fine with a trailer that size. Mine was hard to get around with particularly at gas stations.

Is it true you can have passengers ride/sleep in a fifth wheel legally while driving, but not a travel trailer?
No it’s not permitted

Here’s a question: When y’all are looking at 5’ers (never owned one) do you determine anticipated pin weight by what they state, or do you do the math and take ~20% of the GVWR that is listed? The image below is a good example as to why I ask. That listed hitch weight is ~18.5% of the UVW. I always believed 5’ers to be roughly 20% of total weight on the pin, so if you add another 1-2k pounds loaded, that listed pin weight is only ~15%.

I’m getting a 250 (maybe should have gone 350 lol) and so those ~500 pounds could be the difference in something like this working or not...
You can easily tow that no problem

That seems very odd to me. My 10k fiver has 1800 lbs pin weight.
On edit.. this is dry pin weight for me. Normally loaded it's about 200 lbs more. But then loaded it's about 12k lbs.

I thought so also but I've never dealt with a 5th wheel. Here is the spec sheet. What do you think.

That’s about the limit fully loaded with tremor 250 6.7. My truck is 2840 payload but it’s identical truck as 350 tremor with 3540 payload. 10800 vs 11500 same truck. If I’m max on my sticker I know there is still room to spare.

If you understand physics you wouldn't want your kids or wife
riding in the trailer or 5er unrestrained. Sure, most of the time
it would be fine but it only takes one idiot or bad tire to ruin
your life.

Even motor homes with seat belts are not safe. From my understanding, they do not have to pass any crash safety tests for the “passenger” area.

What I think is really not relevant. Not being snippy, just trying to keep it real.
As mentioned in other areas, toy haulers are a little different animal because they purposely load empty pin weight heavier because as you add weight in the garage, it acts as a counterweight. The axles are your pivot. Weight aft will add overall weight, but as Archimede's lever, you are pulling weight off the pin.
Consider all the aspects carefully as you choose what is best for you and good luck!
