Upfitter Switches, What are you using them for?

Just to make this super complicated…

What if you ran switches 2-6 each to a 5 pin relay. The open position would be the standard output (functions 1-5) and then use switch 1 as the signal for all 5 relays. Then, when you energized switch 1, you would be able to use a different set of accessories (6-10). The big drawback is you couldn’t use accessories 1-5 at the same time as accessories 6-10.

This is how id do it if you needed a lot of switches.

It was the easiest option. Taping into the lights was uber complicated (from my point of view) so just ran to the switch.

I know it's water under the bridge for you on this install, but for any future lighting mods and especially for other folks who haven't yet done lighting mods, this plug and play pig tail is a must. Literally makes the tie in to the parking/marker light circuit a 5 minute task and it's cheap and will eliminate using an upfitter switch where you don't need to. Great for grill Raptor lights or side badge led lights.

Most compressors would require a relay, save maybe some very small units.

Are both trucks diesel or is one a 7.3? If it is a 7.3 what’s the benifit of the high idle?

one gas one diesel I want the high idle on the gas to help the alternator recover. It has twin batteries and alternators. It will help in winter for warm ups too.

4. Air horn…currently the horn blows as long as switch is on. I’ll eventually re wire this to relay oem horn off and only blow air horn when pressing the horn on the wheel
5. Front, rear and side light bars. i’m currently at maximum wattage and thinking of adding a secondary relay to reduce load and be able to add additional lights
6. Winch (once I figure out which relay to buy)

2 and 4 are redundant. Nothing says get well soon better than a .50

Thanks. I was just thinking of looking at a way of mounting my portable in the truck since that I where I always use it. I would have to pull it out of the front storage of my trailer, but from what I find online it says it uses a 30 amp in-line fuse - would think direct wire and the 40 amp fuse would be fine, leaving the 30 amp in-line at the compressor end.

Btw, for high idle, I think I’m going to save an upfitter switch and use this instead.

I am close to ordering a new truck. I am curious what most people are using the upfitter switches for. I am trying to decide if is worth adding to the new truck.

Onboard air compressor, & additional backup lights now, but will probably have some lights up front in the future. The cost for the upfitter switches is so minor, considering how much you'll spend on the truck overall, that it makes good sense to order the truck with them, especially when they are so much nicer than having switches either mounted on the bottom edge of your dash, or drilled into the dash. They are also very easy to utilize, all the hard parts of wiring is already done for you. My advice: get 'em.

#4,5 empty now
#6 will be the winch power when I install it

I just order them and right now I would have nothing to attach to them. But if I do in the future, I will have 5 wired in switches from the factory that look and work good. We’ll worth the price of them now.

I just used one for my ARB compressor. I got them anyway just in case I needed them. Plus they look cool.

I suppose the easiest way to figure this out is:

"Will I ever do anything to my truck that requires me to control electricity on independent circuits/switches?"

If yes--buy.

If no-- don't buy.
