I am maxed out on payload with the 7.3l Lariat and a 2021 Cirrus 820. Added bags and a swaybar to the truck. Going to upgrade the camper inverter to run everything except the AC and install 3 125ah batteries. Other than that I think we’re good for a few years. Will probably upgrade to a International 30RB once we get closer to retirement.

I am looking at something with around 600 to 700 litres of water, of which around 100 would be drinking water, the rest gray water. Plus a pump and filter to suck in Creek water. For power 600 to 1,000 watts from solar, a 2400 w inverter generator and 600 Ah lithium batteries. For this reason I’ll need a van with a tare weight of around 3,200kg and an ATM of around 4,400 or more. Still figuring all this out. Plus things like PLB, sat phone, etc.

man that thing is cool. I go back and forth between wanting something like that for and figuring for the money just going with a pretty big travel trailer. If it were just me or me and wifey I'd probably do that but with 2 kids and the dog I think the trailer is the way to go. Those things just seem so convenient and get you into any campsite...really cool!

The Cirrus is a big boy; I think a little too heavy for my needs. Leaning more towards a Northstar Liberty or Capri Retreat to keep the weight down at the cost of a few amenities. We do a lot of dispersed/BLM camping and don't want the weight to take away off-road capability.

I like the look of the rooftop tents. Fold down to nothing, they are off the ground and you can still pull a boat or skis

Truck is 2 mo old now and finally the weather has cooled down some to take our Black Series off-road camper camping. We're taking it to a primitive area in Brevard, NC. I plan to tow this camper down some trails at some point.... after all it's built to take some punishment... the wheels/tires/suspension and frame are beefy as heck.

I had a friend giving me shit about "camping" with the family in our 29' TT. Ran into him while he was tent camping and he set up a 10' screen and was playing video games.....

You may want to give it a try. I can tell you, I will never sleep in a tent again ? roof top or otherwise. Stepping into a nice travel trailer while touring the USA ?? sure beats pitching a tent after dark and or in a down pour. Got my fill on tent camping in the military, yep even the USAF has tents. Just saying...??

Which airbag system and sway bars did you use? My Northern-Lite is about the same weight and I would like get less sway. The truck drops about 4" with camper slightly touching the overload springs. Was thinking about just starting with TorkLift StableLoads, but not sure if they will do the job.

If you can handle something a bit smaller than the big airstream, Oliver makes a 23.5’ four seasons fiberglass trailer, that is probably the best trailer that money can buy.

They even offer a 400ah lithium battery pack and 3000 watt inverter, capable of running the AC off battery and solar (they have a big solar option as well).

I used to be dead set on an airstream until I saw an Oliver.

For me real camping used to be in a sleeping bag camping out in the open under the stars. It still is, but I am older now and I like my creature comforts. I still insist on a pit fire though. If you don’t have one of those, you’re not camping. For now, I have a roof top tent. Where I go, you can’t use a boat or skis.

So no lake top mountain locations....I agree on the real camping.
Ca does not allow pit fires anymore. No camping in ca worthless crap state.
