Tremor Winch

my big dilemma now is whether to order the Ford winch, which I like because it’s clean and goes in the factory bumper,

or to get a Warn 16.5ti put in an aftermarket bumper. I wouldn’t mind some grill protection but I also don’t want to lose any clearance. I was talking to https://instagram.com/robbonneyfab about a custom bumper that would be more “high and tight” than what’s out there for modern super duties.

one part of me just wants to order the Ford one and be done with it. but i also worry that 12k might not be enough (diesel truck with 1000+ lbs constant payload)

I’m new to the winch world, but wouldn’t 1 or 2 snatch blocks with possibly extra line if needed greatly improve the pulling strength of the winch?

yes a snatch block can double a winch capacity

Correct, you can almost double your winch’s capacity with a snatch block. Keep that capacity in mind when you choose your recovery accessories.

i carry 4 snatch blocks with me and one of the reason i am happy with a 10k winch on my Tremor

I’m really happy to hear you guys confirm this. I frequently tow a 7k lb RV, so I imagine having at least one snatch block would be great in case I ever get stuck for some reason. (Not that I make a habit of taking the trailer through crazy terrain)

curious why you went for 10k instead of something bigger
i have 10k for my jeeps and i had a extra 10k winch in the shed so i put it on the tremor to have one right now the 15k i was looking at was over priced and out of overstock in most places and with snatch blocks 10k is enough if you use it correctly

For all you guys who ordered the winch with your truck did the winch show up first or your truck. Dealer called me today and told me my truck has showed up but my winch has not showed up yet. He is supposed to call me tomorrow with an update. Should I be worried about it not showing up. Thinking I should pick up my truck from the dealership tomorrow and just bring it back when the winch arrives just don’t want to sign the paperwork and never get my winch.

Pick up the truck, be sure to have the dealer complete a “We Owe” slip. It’s a common practice and will protect you.

^^^^^^
That
Mine showed up a couple of weeks before the truck but others here received it after.

My truck showed up about a week before the winch. I picked up the truck and signed a we owe you slip. If I had waited to receive my truck until the winch came in,I think it would’ve gone crazy knowing that my truck was at the dealership but waiting am unknown amount of time for the winch before I could take it home.

Thanks guys going to try to pick up my truck tomorrow didn’t know anything about we owe slips

I ordered mine with the dual batteries and extra alternator but without the winch thinking at least it will be ready if I decide to go with the factory winch later. Otherwise thinking aftermarket or custom bumper with a bigger winch with more synthetic rope than 70 feet.

I ordered the Ford winch because I like the clean look of the factory bumper and grill. I will likely not be doing any hard core 4 wheeling where I would need a brush and rock bashing bumper. Those days are over. I'll use this one for utility, and it will be extra assurance in the back country.
Back in the day I had a 66 F250 4x4 with a 12k lb PTO winch, and I quickly learned a couple things about winches;
You suddenly have plenty of buddies who like to go recklessly 4 wheeling into the wee hours of the morning and now need your help. (Not that I wasn't one of these yahoos, I just happened to be the one with the winch.)
Also, you usually get stuck going forward, and sometimes the smart thing to is to back out. You have to get creative with rigging a front mounted winch in this scenario. Receiver mount hitches to go front or rear are cool.

Anyways, I've gotten myself out of plenty of jams with a good winch, and pulled lots of logs and stuff. I'm looking forward to having a winch again when my new rig arrives, and I'm pretty stoked about the nylon line too, vs the old steel cable.

For what it’s worth, I just looked on the warn website and looked at winch options - looks like the cheapest one for the super duty in the 12-16.5 k lb range is $2,750, which is MORE than the ford winch at x-plan pricing. So aftermarket winch is a more expensive option regardless of whether it fits in the existing winch slot.

Since I'm new to Ford since the 1990's. I don't know the ins and outs of the Ford pricing plans.
Is it true that you can use the X plan on accessories? I have a code that I hear they are not accepting on the Bronco and would not mind combining that with my Ford pass points.

Just remember to get yourself some extra line. I used to carry two 100' cables in my Jeep when 4 wheeling. That was in addition to the tug strap and the tree saver. You'd be surprised how short 70' of line is.

How different are the 2017-2018 bumpers from the 2020? While pricing 12K lb Warn winches I. Are across this.

I don’t think I would care for the look of my bumper sticking out another 6” but some people might like the look. They have a finishing kit for it as well.
Combine it with something like this.
Swap out the steel cable, add a wireless kit and you have a $1000 less expensive alternative.

I contacted my parts Ford department yesterday about the winch and they called me an hour ago to tell me it was in!
I said I was interested in pricing and was waiting for a call back so I guess I’ll drive over and see what they will sell it to me for.
