Transmission Fluid Change

That hole is not drilled for a plug on my '23. I'm not sure what bolt 8 is on the drawing, but that's the only hole drilled on my transmission body (except for the wiring connector and shift linkage). No ports on the passenger side either.
I only have the 2024 Manual. Here is the full list of ID numbers on the '24

# 8 is Line Pressure, so it cant be used to fill while truck is running

I guess Ford managed to realize they were stupid for not installing a 50 cent fill plug for '23.

Gotta keep us peasants guessing.

Side note- PPE also has a cooler reroute that bypasses the T Stat. Not sure what that cooling circuit runs at....maybe 160-170? I'm on the fence there too. Ford didn't just arbitrarily say "run the trans at 200°". There is a reason. I'd like more info before dropping the temp 40 or 50 degrees.
I wonder if it would lower the CAC temp too if you ran in bypass since teh cac, trans, and i think fuel cooler (maybe oil) are all on the same secondary system.

I'm not familiar with the current generation set up, but on older models I do not believe it will. They are on the same coolant system but the transmission has a separate T Stat on the passenger side of the radiator. The fuel cooler and CAC thermostat is on the driver side. Same system, different circuits.

They are completely divorced systems, two water pumps, two coolant reservoirs and everything from what I have seen. I just can't remember which systems are on the primary vs secondary lol. There was a post on here somewhere recently about it, maybe in these 6 pages? 😬 hell i can't remember

I know they are two systems. The secondary system on 11- 16s has two thermostats. Same pump, same coolant, two circuits and t stats.
The primary system is separate from that.

@JTredway : Transmission cooler is feeding off the Primary system from my 2020+ Coffee Table book info.

That's my only reason for an aftermarket pan- the drain plug. Not the extra fluid. Although dilution is a solution. More fluid can keep more dirt in suspension. Still, it's about the ease of draining every 20-30k. That was my SOP on the 6 speed.
Maaan, if I actually read all of what was typed before I replied I would have caught the drain plug mention. RTFQ as my dad would say.

we have a saying here at work RTFC, read the fkg contract.

Secondary System : CAC and Fuel cooler.

Performed my first trans fluid change today. I dropped the pan and changed the filter. It was pretty dark. Nothing to be concerned on the magnet though.
I followed the instructions listed in the Helm manual.

I added what they said i would need to (6qts + 2 qts for pan and filter removal). However, once i got it up to temp and pulled the fill plug... it started running out. I didnt need to add anymore.

Anyone else experience this?

It was somewhat dark too which tells me i likely need to do another drain and fill.

*EDIT* disregard. I misread this part.

Nice info. I'm looking into doing mine pretty quick here as well, probably with my next oil change. Do I need to get a pan gasket or is it a reusable rubber one. I can't tell from the photos of the gasket on Ford's website. Thanks buddy!

They say its reusable so i reused mine. I'm pretty sure mine is leaking. Not much but enough that i'm going to take some fluid with me on my trip.

I followed tightening pattern and torque specs. Its leaking at part of the pan thats below the plug and, no, its not :)

Which pan did you decide to go with?
PPE is 5qts over stock while AFE is 4qts.
Im leaning PPE but only because of the fill pipe. Being able to fill from a different place then wait til it weeps out the stock fill would be nice.
Ground clearance is a laughable argument. This will still sit higher than the cats.

For $65 it's a spendy gasket, but maybe I'll just grab one and change it so I don't have to worry about a leak.

PPE.

FYI - heres a pic from a review showing its elevation relative to the cats. No clue what year model. Doubt it matters though.
