Transmission Fluid Change

My ‘25 F-350 non-Tremor has the 10R140.

I don't know what to tell you. When was your truck's build date?

[Edit:

What was your truck's build date, or, when was your truck built?]

Not true, guys. My ‘25 F-350 non-Tremor has the 10R140. It was only available in certain configurations on the F-350s but it was absolutely available in non-Tremor trucks.

That means the 10R140 would/should still be able to be had behind the 7.3 in "certain configurations [of] the F350".

Correct. Just checked the '26 build & price and on the non-Tremor F-350s, the 6.8 gas gets the 10R100 and the 7.3 gets the 10R140. Even the regular cab XL gets the 10R140 as long as it's a 4x4.

Same case when I ordered my '25.

Huh.

So I have three photos of three different window stickers from 2025 SDs.

Two are F250/7.3/TorqShift-G, one is an F350/6.7H.O./TORQSHIFT

Mayhaps it's the non-TremorPackage F250 7.3s that are getting the -G trans but the F350s non-Tremor 7.3 still gets the 10R140.

And from your Build and Price just now you're seeing F350s w/ the 6.8 "Mini-Zilla" getting the -G (10R100).

Interesting. Ford, you crazy.

That's correct (y)

Well awlrightythen. Thank you for sorting that one out for the time being. Who knows what they'll do next.

Meanwhile, I'm communicating with PPE to continue the swap process for the correct pan for my 7.3 gas/10R140.

For fun, I sent them a RFI to see/ confirm if the 10R140 pan for the 7.3 is compatible with the 10R140 on the diesel.
The photos on their website show slight variances in bolt holes.

For sake of discussion the pan bolt pattern should be the same, or, one would think.

The drain/fill/standpipe are different.

@The Evil Twin : I think you are right. The front leading edge looks to have a different number of mounting holes.

That's what I was seeing.
It wouldn't make sense to me to have 2 different versions of the same gearbox. I dunno
There is the possibility that the photo is not the actual part. I know that happens on websites. Happens with restaurant menus too. My burger never looks like the photo

Where is our Tremor Forum R&D Team at?

I could draw one up but with the time i've had working with producers getting my LightGuard made... MOQs and all.... i kinda dont want to know what the setup costs/logistics/etc would be for a cast part. 🫣

Once I realized this thread went way off the original topic (surprise!)) I created another. Good news for those that want a drain plug but not so much extra fluid to drain!

Just did an fluid change at 46k miles, and mine was an dark brown color removed. Was surprised at that given the lowish miles, lack of towing, but use off road in the mountains. Low speed crawling & easy highway miles.

However I did come up with an near mess free solution for replacing the original pan :D

The suctionater! drilled an hole in a 5 gallon pour bucket, stuck an piece of tubing in it, then a smaller piece of fuel tube at the end.
At the spout connected the shop vac to create suction into the 5 gallon reservoir

dropped the pan, still had an little fluid left in it (first picture) so being careful i was able to remove it without spilling a drop on the floor or cross-member!

changed out the filter. Magnet on the stock pan did have some glitter, but not bad at all probably just the initial wear in of the gears

torqued all the bolts in the torque pattern (bought an new OEM Oring for the pan)

new pan looks nice. Drove the truck hard for 20 minutes to get the temp back up to 215F
Pulled back on the rack, left truck in park and running. Topped back up with fluid ~1qt
Want to say it was around 20 quarts added total

Great post, and thanks for sharing your retrieval method!

If yours was dark brown under your driving conditions, my fluid must be like chocolate by now (sitting at 80K).

This will be my next move after our Sedona trip (trans service).

Is the screen on the laptop from the Ford online manual?

Do you have a skid plate? If so, which one?

Since there is no fill or drain hole on the '23+ models, I've been contemplating just drilling a hole in the plastic plan to drain the juice before installing the aluminum pan.

yea the ford manual ford-super-duty-service-manual it has been worth every penny now that I've started heavier work on the truck
Most the torque specs in there, wiring diagrams, how to remove this part, how to drain and fill the transmission.
Way better then some dude on youtube.

No skid plate yet, just got a new 3D scanner in today and will start scanning the underside to prototype out an steel skid plate/rock slider/fuel tank protector that mounts to the frame.

So I was thinking about this while under the truck.... no clue how you are not going to make an mess once you punch though the pan.... maybe if you started with like an 1/16" drill bit and just let it drain for lunch? 1/4" and you will be drenched in fluid I think. Would drill under the filter however as it's pretty thick so even if you did go too far in your only hitting plastic your about to replace.

Please keep me in the loop regarding your designs. I'm interested in all three.

My skid plate is heading this way. As a '22 user I'm considering the 7.3L pan version to see how it works and fits. All things in good time. 😎 😎 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲

It is filled from the bottom through a standpipe.

I will put a piece of tubing on the bit as a drill stop with a circle of plastic for a drip deflector and drill through the side, at the lower edge. I have already bought a 2 gallon fluid fill device and the PPE pan comes with the standpipe adapter.

Might as well keep this thread open on my laptop—some serious insights into this mysterious transmission woe are about to unfold.
