I should be swapping my Trails for Pros in 38s before too long. Will have a few 37 Trails with ~30-40% tread life left if anyone in CenTex wants one for a spare. If no interest, will get donated to Discount. lolI've run two sets of the original RT's (which are still sold), two sets of RT Trails, and now the RT Pro's, and I have to admit that the Pro's are far and away my favorite. All of the tires in the RT lineup have been fantastic.
How’s the ride? The MT’s are D’s and the Pro’s are E’s so I’m assuming the ride is stiffer. Thinking about switching to the pro’s since I drive a lot. Maybe I’ll sell the MT’s to help pay for the Pro’s.Got the pros. Came from toyo MTs. Prefer the pros
The Pro's are smoother and IMHO, quieter than the Trails. I can't explain why, but this has been my experience in the first 5K miles with the Pro's. Users have reported better balancing as well, but I have never experienced balance issues with the Trails. They are heavier than the Trails, but this has only amounted to about a 1-1.5mpg reduction in my fuel economy overall.
I had planned to go 38’s with R/T Pros replacing my 37 R/T Trails but when I had to replace the R/T trails, the Pro’s in the size I wanted were not out yet.
Ended up 38x13.50x18 Toyo M/T’s and they ride and balance much better than my R/T Trails did.
Once these need replacing I’ll have a bit more decisions to make with the R/T Pro being an option now
I’ve had the RT Trails for about a year now, 37x12.5r18.. Slightly louder than the Duratracs, which is no problem, but they are definitely worse in snow/rain.. They look cool, I’m sure work well in off road conditions but borderline suck in weather.. My driveway has very slight incline and sometimes I have to use 4 wheel drive just to make it out. Very disappointed in that aspect.
Will probably go with KO2’s or AT3’s next.. Both aren’t nearly as aggressive looking but I need the actual performance here in Ohio weather. Lesson learned![]()
I wanted to wait for the 38's as well but I needed tires and couldn't wait any longer. By the next set i'll be moving to 38's or 40's if I keep it beyond that time.
I don't deal with snow or ice, so that aspect doesn't matter to me for where I live. I didn't experience any wet-weather performance issues until they reached over 45,000 miles, which is the maximum mileage they are warranted for. At that point, they were already down to 6-7/32 tread depth, and you'll experience reduced performance regardless.
I'd caution the KO line on HD trucks; they simply don't hold up to these heavier-weight vehicles. I personally don't care for the AT3's, and I removed them in favor of the RT Trail on the GX550.
I have about 10k miles on them so they aren’t worn down much.. They are prob the worst performing tires I’ve ever owned in regards to weather.. But everyone’s views may not align with mine, I live in the snow belt of Ohio.. Definitely gonna get something different next time! Appreciate the input![]()
Great post but all I'm reading is I may as well stick with MTs lmaoI have ran so many different tires. Interco, Mickey Thompson ,Dick Cepek ,Parnely Jones, Goodyear, General, Uniroyal (they made a good MT back in the 90’s),BFG, Nitto and Toyo. Plus a few other odd ball setups. Now that you have Nitto and Toyo I have no clue why you would buy anything else for a daily driver? BFG gets a runner up as last tire I would spend my money on. Now if I needed projects or sticky’s that’s different. I have not ran the Ridge Graps, but the Mud Graps, Trail Graps and G2’s People love or hate the Ridge Graps. Almost bought them as they have a 38x13.50x18. But Toyo made it in the RT Pro and that’s what I went with. I have now ran all 3 of the RT’s. Here is my take and my opinion only so don’t get but hurt.
Toyo AT3’s- the tire we should all be buying, but don’t because they don’t look as mean or you actually spent more time in the dirt than asphalt. Great snow and wet weather traction, good hard pack and not to bad in the sand when aired down. Good tread life, noise and smooth. An AT4 with big side lugs would sell like hot cakes.
Toyo MT- The best AT tire ever made, it does nothing great, but everything good enough. Super tough side wall, good ride and quit compared to other MT’s. They suck in the snow, but any big lugged tire will, snow likes to stick to snow and open tread designs just don’t do that.
Toyo RT- Great dirt and rock tire. Sucks in the snow and wet weather. The only tire I have ever taken off because they sucked so bad for my application. I would have to use four wheel drive and sometimes rear differential lock to get my boat out of the water on steep concrete ramps. Winter and rain it was 4 high. Swapped them out to the Nitto G2’s and could pull the same boat out of the same ramp in two wheel drive. Crazy, only thing I didn’t like about them is they had a high pitch buzz on the road (the G2’s).
Toyo RT Trail- I was super stoked about these tires. I had Toyo MT’s on my last trucks and wanted something different. I did not like how small they were in the 37x12.5x18 size. They rode as stiff or stiffer than the MT and didn’t have the “look”. They balances out great, drove ok other than being stiff, even at 50 psi. Wet weather and snow they were just ok, not terrible, but ok. I did not need four wheel drive to pull my boat out of the water. Dirt roads, sand and rock they were ok as well. But I wish I would have went with the AT3’s. I did’t fell I got the ride or performance for the little bit more aggressive look. Or I should have just kept with the old reliable MT’s that look so dated now.
Toyo RT Pro These are the tire I was hoping the Trails were going to be. Went with the 38x13.50x18 and same wheels. Tire store put 60/65 F/R and the drive home was day and night different. So much smoother ride. Could one inch make that much difference? Truck sits one inch taller on the Pro 38’s vs the 37 Trails. Noise seems about the same as the trails. Wet weather and snow, the Trails have an advantage, but the Pro’s behave like the MT’s. I feel the Pro is the MT2, I have not had them in the rocks or mud but everything else and I would swear I was on my old MT’s. Will they be as indestructible as the MT’s, time will tell. But so far I am super happy with the Pro’s. They give me the “look” I want and a good ride with close to MT performance. I can’t say better right now, but we will see after the summer.

I agree for now, but the Pro's will be a close second if they hold up.Great post but all I'm reading is I may as well stick with MTs lmao
1900 lbs of tongue weight might help as well. The Raptor guys loved the original RT's.Your experience with the standard RT's is wild compared to mine. I was yanking out a 38' Fountain that sat at 19,000lbs on the trailer regularly with those tires (37's), and never once was traction an issue on the ramp. I loved them in the sand and dirt; they were as good as the KO2 in the sand. They were down on performance in the rain, the only RT I feel that way about.
I believe a lot of people's opinions on tires have a lot to do with the air pressure they run them at and the width of the wheel they are mounted on. There are a ton of variables and even more bias and opinion that come into play as well.
There is some truth to that statement, but name one of their tires that would look good on your truck. Maybe something from the X Force line, but I would hate to live with that tire on a daily.Michelin is the best tire ever made!![]()
They would definitely look good but correct: ain't driving those on the daily! There is some truth to that statement, but name one of their tires that would look good on your truck. Maybe something from the X Force line, but I would hate to live with that tire on a daily.
