I’ve heard the found north stuff is amazing and I love the story! Do you have other bottles? Thoughts on the brand?
I've also have batches 3, 6, 7, 8, and the Peregrine release. I'm saving the Peregrine for a special occasion as it is regularly rated as being better than George T. Stagg. Found North used to be one of those blenders that you had to be in the know, but now they seem to have broken out and that's great for the brand, but makes their bottles increasingly difficult to get.I’ve heard the found north stuff is amazing and I love the story! I’m not a massive fan of Canadian whisky, but a bourbon friend of mine said the same thing…. It’d change my mind. Unfortunately I haven’t seen a single bottle for sale locally.I've also have batches 3, 6, 7, 8, and the Peregrine release. Batch 9 was a consolation offer for those to tried to get a bottle of Hell Diver (the sequel to Peregrine) and sold out pretty much instantly. Reviews on Hell Diver put it just shy of Peregrine.
The last several "regular" batch releases have all been rated highly, and the team at Found North does well with picking a base barrel and then building on it, finding other barrels that add layers of flavor and make releases well rounded, balanced profiles that hit all the right notes. These releases all have high age statements and are relatively affordable at MSRP for what you're getting.
If you're not a fan of Canadian Whiskey, this brand will change your mind (if you can get your hands on a bottle).
How do you like your Blantons SFTB? My 131.4 proof is the best tasting high proof bourbon I’ve ever had… but I’ve tried some 128.4 that was lackluster.View attachment 160425
A small sample of some of my favorites. Cheers all!
I just remembered I have a bottle at my mom's house I gotta pick up as well that I got through the reddit bourbon "club". So another potential source for the future.I’m not a massive fan of Canadian whisky, but a bourbon friend of mine said the same thing…. It’d change my mind. Great info.I just remembered I have a bottle at my mom's house I gotta pick up as well that I got through the reddit bourbon "club". So another potential source for the future.
I checked and sadly it doesn't seem that there is a single store in Indiana that sells them. A few in Chicago are on their list so probably closest place to you to hunt for a bottle. That said, I haven't found any on shelves in stores I've visited that are on the list in other States. I've purchased. Got my bottle of Peregrine because I knew a manager at a chain who was able to get it for me. Tried ordering directly, but it sold out pretty much instantly on the Found North website. Aside from the special release for reddit, all my other bottles were purchased directly from Found North.
That or your bourbon friend needs to send you a sample![]()
Drinks a lot lower, very smooth. I have one bottle at 124.1 and a second at 127.9. Best high proof, no, yet pretty damn good. How do you like your Blantons SFTB? My 131.4 proof is the best tasting high proof bourbon I’ve ever had… but I’ve tried some 128.4 that was lackluster.
I enjoyed the Rampur ... Found it at Costco last fall. Had some interesting layers of flavor that were quite unique (in a good way) and a great introduction to Indian whiskey for anyone wanting to explore that region.View attachment 160450
I know most of the forum drinks bourbon but I generally do not as I find it too sweet; I prefer single malts. I always do a Scotch (or Irish) whisky tasting during the family beach trip. This year I mixed it up a little and did world whiskies. The Toki (Japan) and Penderyn (Welsh) were the top tier. Toki is a great value and a darn good dram. The Rampur (Indian) and Kavalan (Taiwan) were second tier; not bad but I am drinking the left-over Kavalan with ginger ale….. The Brenne (French) was just weird; was ostensibly a single malt but really did not taste like one. Frankly it tasted like distilled jelly beans.
The Kavalan was not their core release; it was a vatting of several different cask finishes and I thought, while tasty it was a little woody. The Penderyn I used was a Madeira cask finished so it was a little on the sweet side. It is similar to a lighter Highland dram like Edradour that is cask finished, or even my Madeira cask finished Tyrconnell.I enjoyed the Rampur ... Found it at Costco last fall. Haven't cracked my bottle of Toki yet and we have a different bottle of Kavalan that we also enjoyed. How is that Penderyn? What is it most similar to?
I really wanted the Amrut but None of the local Virginia ABC Stores had any. I have heard good things about it; thanks for the suggestion.View attachment 160470
Since we’re talking about Indian Whiskey here’s my first bottle. Picked it up last week. It’s VERY different from my normal Bourbon…. But I like it. Very unique flavor profile.
I need to try it. NH has a deliver statewide, but I missed it due to work.Drinks a lot lower, very smooth. I have one bottle at 124.1 and a second at 127.9. Best high proof, no, yet pretty damn good.
Reading all these threads about people sharing these nice whiskeys with friends, I think I need some more friends.Got a couple taste of this over the weekend with a friend. Single barrel red Japan.
